Sweden took a relatively unique approach to Covid and I feared the worst...

me too! Brett time is well spent. It's been awhile since we've seen each :(
Yeah, we both have been busy with our own things.

I live about 110 miles from Buttonwillow, I may cruise down that way when you guys are racing down there. I've got a friend who lives in Bakersfield, I'll see if I can talk him into checking out the racing.

That'd be awesome! Let me know if you can make it a few days in advance and I'll put you on the gate list. If you decide not to come don't worry about canceling, etc.

Thanks, Berto!
It'd be cool to see you and the other race again and catch up. I'm hoping my coaching schedule works out to allow that.

The highest death rate in Europe with full emergency rooms and ICUs? That Sweden?

It's just herd immunity doing its thing. Why are you worried.

Perhaps some reality is needed here...
Death rater per million over last 7 days:
Switzerland : 11.67 13.17 13.05 4.50 2.88 19.18
Belgium: 16.04 14.75 13.46 14.66 8.28 11.82
Italy: 12.45 10.80 11.56 11.44 9.29 10.41
Spain: 7.50 5.38 7.01 0 0 10.95
France: 6.52 6.57 17.46 3.86 3.27 7.73
Austria: 12.10 6.88 11.99 11.54 6.66 7.88
Greece: 5.75 5.66 6.90 10.36 9.88 8.05
Portugal: 5.88 8.23 6.17 5.48 6.27 6.46
United Kingdom: 7.79 7.39 7.52 5.00 5.87 3.04
Germany: 3.00 3.24 3.05 1.70 1.16 3.59
Sweden: 9.50 1.88 6.53 0 0 0
Perhaps I missed the sarcasm in the post...
Or maybe the John Hopkins data is just garbage.

Merely Rhetorical
What was he talking about, because even overall death rate (or death/M) is lower than many EU countries?

Is it that, of the EU countries with full ER's and ICU's, Sweden has the highest death rates? I do not know which countries have full ER's and ICU's.

I don't know what he was talking about but I can read...

M5 was not talking about 7 day averages like Brett is

I do know that OECD consistently puts Sweden on the high end of Covid infections/deaths. I do know that herd immunity in Sweden isn't working, at this time. I do know that hospitals in Sweden are canceling electives and non-required appts/procedures as they hope to open up as many beds as possible.

Still to early to tell if their strategy worked or not though...

Yeah, but M5 spoke EDIT:it in absolutes so he's got to get whipped a few times.
I wasn't trying to hammer him, it's just that what he said doesn't match up with the data that I have from JH.

Now, I don't have hospitalizations, but I do have death information and I have new infection information, so unless the hospitalizations are out of proportion with those two numbers, and way out of proportion, then something isn't adding up.

BTW, those numbers that I posted are individual day values normalized to /million. They represent the deaths for each of the last 7 days.

Is Sweden still just asking people to wear masks, wash their hands etc??

Man.. the stats in Tux's link are telling for sure.

No, not until now. And people are still hesitant. With the huge death levels compared with the other Nordic countries, Finland and Norway are very much confused about the strange attitude Sweden has concerning Covid.

They're now "inline" with most other countries. PM made a public announcement encourage more social isolation.

No alcohol sales after 10. No large gatherings. Encouragement to social distance.

I don't see a mask mandate.

The biggest thing they did in the beginning was an outright BAN on all border travel, even as a Swede you couldn't return. They then went and instilled this policy days later.

I think that was the biggest contributor to keeping the virus at low initial levels.

On March 17th the Swedish Government decided to restrict non-essential travels to Sweden across an external border, meaning from other countries than the EU/EEA, except the UK or Switzerland. The decision is currently in effect until December 22nd 2020.

https://polisen.se/en/the-swedish-p...the-swedish-police/travel-to-and-from-sweden/

Obviously, it's no longer effective
