N00b track day prep thread 2019.

Taze away, Yana...
Got my rear brake issue taken care of. Hoping to replace air filter, spark plugs, and lube the cables before the track day. Bought a trailer hitch ball for the 4runner, just need some straps now. Was going to rent the small motorcycle trailer from uhaul but if someone needs a tow up to Thunderhill, let me know. We can go up a trailer size to fit another bike though I'm not familiar with strapping down the bikes, so will definitely need to look up some guides on that. I'm planning to leave Friday evening and return Sunday afternoon.

Also, I was hoping to add Sunday - Should I buy just buy another Novice ticket through the website?

Yup, just go to the Z2 website and buy Sunday. You'll be shocked at how much better you do after your mind has a chance to think on it while you sleep.

Oh my goodness we're getting down to the wire!
Has everyone worked out gear, bikes, and transport? If you haven't get on it!!

Things you will need for any track day (gang chime in if I forgot something):

I'll have water, drinks, shade, snacks, and food for Saturday lunch. You need to bring your bike, all your gear, any special foods you may need, any medication you need, toiletries, something to sleep in/ on and a chair for every member of your party. You'll also need food for Sunday breakfast and lunch if you decide to ride both days.

As always on every two day weekend, Z2 provides an awesome dinner and drinks on Saturday night for everyone at the track around 5:30.

For sleeping there are places for tent, or a lot of people setup a bed in their car/truck. There is also plenty of power at this (not all tracks) track if you need to plug in.

They do have food (coffee, breakfast, a decent lunch) and gas available at the track, but it costs money. It's cheaper to bring a gas can full of fuel than it is to buy it at the track, but it's more convenient to just buy at the track if you don't want to buy a jug right now. That's entirely up to you, but expect to use around 10 gallons of fuel in a weekend.

This afternoon is open not only to you, but any of your friends and family that may want to come support you, or even ride with you. The n00b pit is open to everyone. I'll have way more than enough food, and anyone that wants to come with you for the weekend is free as long as they aren't riding.

The last thing is the bike key. DO NOT forget your bike key. It's so easy to load up your bike the night before and put the key back in the bowl just inside your door. Put the key in a bag you will not forget under any circumstances. You have absolutely no idea how often this happens.

How is everyone sorted? What's left to do?

I'm most likely going to rent a pick up truck myself. Will need to figure out a way to load my bike onto the truck though.

Weather reports indicate possible chance of rain :(

Do they still let you on the track if its raining?

Yeah they absolutely run in the rain. I don't know what weather report you're looking at, but if it rains onto the track while we are riding I'll give you $10. If it doesn't rain (water doesn't touch the ground outside of humidity) between 9-5 both Saturday and Sunday you owe me $10. Deal?

You should all start hydrating the whole week leading up to the trackdays. Dont wait until the day of to start drinking lots of water, you will just be exhausted and have lots of headaches before the day ends and lose focus. Start hydrating early.

I was spreading fake news! My apologies.

It looks like it'll be 100 degrees that weekend x_x

I have big fans with misters. We will be fine. Start hydrating on Monday though.

If anyone is looking to stay on Sunday, I’m selling my pass. Save yourself some gas money and buy your Sunday pass from me. I can sign you up for whatever group you’re comfortable in.

$150 https://www.BayAreaRidersForum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536878&referrerid=68517

For any n00b interested:

Though Z2, nor any track day provider will offer refunds close to the track day, they all allow the transfer from one rider to another up until the date of the event. Normally at a discount (loss to the rider selling) if the day is not sold out. However, only season pass holders can offer any group. Typically if your not a season pass holder you can only sell the group you bought. David is the law on this and all rules can be broken if he says they can.

This is correct. I am a season pass holder.

If we have space, we can sometimes allow sales of passes to different groups. Just send me an email first: david@z2trackdays.com

See you all soon. Happy 4th!

Anyone interested in booking a local motel Friday/Saturday night? The lowest rate I see is 72/night which has 2 beds.

hey guys im headed up on sunday 14th. coming from daly city. i have space on my trailer for one bike if anyone still needs help getting their stuff up there

Thanks for the offer! They will all be at the track Saturday though. One noob was going to ride home Sunday morning, but if you have room maybe he will want to ride Sunday and catch a lift with you on the way back down? That sounds like a solid plan to me. I'll let him reach out to you if that sounds like something he wants to do.

J,

Cleaning and pulling the bike into the shop today and will do a full service. Removing highway pegs, pass. pegs, mirrors, disconnecting lights, etc..

Here are the boots and gloves that I have. Let me know what you think. My Arai helmet should be good to go. Also, how do I size a suit? Looks like I'll need to rent one thru Cyclegear. I'm 6'3" and 200lbs. Size 33 waist.

Just sent you Davids contact to see if he has a suit in your size. Those boots are a bit overkill, but if you can operate the controls quickly they should work.

If you change the oil make sure you go for a ride and check for leaks BEFORE you head to the track.

So I am trying to figure out how I'm going to get my bike to the track.

Option 1 is rent a motorcycle trailer. I dont think my Prius can tow...so I may also need to rent a vehicle that tows.

Option 2 is rent a pick up truck. But to get the bike on the truck bed, do I need to buy a ramp?

i am leaving daly city on friday at 2. i have room for one bike on my trailer and will be camping out all weekend. i have 2 spare tents if anyone needs one.
