Dining? Whoa! What a nice truck!
Ha! Yeah she’s a sweetheart but a man needs a little variety every now and then.

Yup. If that GS had the Z07 package which comes with Cup 2 tires and ceramic brakes, it actually would’ve beat the new C8.
It’s a big heavy, but this new C8 is a pretty good start. Z06 version should be just bananas fast.
lol bookface has ads up clickbait ads up meow, pics of c8 huge letters saying MASSIVE PRICE CUTS ON CHEVY C8, get prices below msrp, @ 55k......
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat in the world is this clickbait shit, i hate how google poops advertisement everywhere you go on what you have been searching for via your history
Oh yeah- on Cup 2s is would've been a couple seconds faster. They really should have put both cars on the same tire for that test just to shut us bench racers up. I will say though, that I was very surprised the C8 wasn't faster. It's heavy but the added traction should have helped it a lot. DCT should have given a slight advantage in shifts as well. I think the stock setup is way too safe and pushy- even the suggested "track" alignment which was used by Car and Driver. Motor trend said going to the track alignment from stock setup dropped 2-3 secs per lap which is crazy. The stock alignment must be hot garbage lol.
Fixed.Probably a very conservative setup. I saw “mid corner understeer” appear in just about every early review of the C8. And it’s baked in there for good reason. Let’s face it, the majority of Corvette buyers are hardly ever really going to wring the thing out properly. So when they do, the front end starts pushing, and the driver gets scared and takes it down a notch. They know most people can’t handle the back end coming around suddenly...which it very much will do in a mid engine car. With that much weight back there, once the back end lets go, it’s pretty much coming all the way around and there’s not much an unskilled driver (or even the stability control) can do to stop it.
I dunno. Some of the reviews from the press drives I read were screaming about understeer, but they also mentioned that it does not handle trying to induce oversteer very well. Which tells me they spun it trying to drift it.
There are some mid/rear engined cars that you can hang the ass out through a turn if you know what you’re doing. But many are designed to stay planted and you need to really upset the suspension (like a ham fisted chicane) to get it to break loose. And then you need god tier skills to balance it and keep it from coming around all the way.
I suspect the C8 drives somewhat like the NSX. Yes the NSX has torque vectoring front motors to give it some AWD, so it’s kind of apples and oranges here. Though, past 70-80mph the electric motors aren’t really contributing much anymore. But while I haven’t driven the C8 at all, I’ve driven the shit out of the new NSX. And that thing is understeer city. Try all you want to hang the back out through a turn...it won’t do it. Mostly because the nannies are fighting you. You gotta do something super dumb to get enough inertia to swing it out. But it’s so much intertia, that you can’t catch it and it keeps coming around.

Time to resurrect this thread as I have corvette fever today. Just built an online 2020 Z51 elkhart blue with silver racing stripes and premium silver wheels and tan napa leather interior. Damn if it doesn't look sweet.
While I can afford it, my bang for the buck bargain budget mind keeps me looking at used C5 FRCs or Z06s.

Gotta fix that understeer.

I don't know if I would go with the Z51 package on the street. I don't think I'd ever do track days with it.
Just get the 3LT and call it a day perhaps.
Here is a vid from Daily Downshift comparing the base C8 to the Z51 package.

Track or not, you are stuck with Z51 if you want MagneRide. Which is a no brainer pick as far as I’m concerned.
Doesn’t matter though. Doubt there’s any 2020 order allocations a available anymore. and for 2021 the MagneRide will be a stand-alone option.
Well who wouldn’t have Corvette fever? It was National Corvette Day yesterday after all! I imagine you built a C8 coming in right around $80k. For that money you could have a C7 Grand Sport with lots of money to spare. Or if you’re power hungry, a C6 ZR1 with money to spare. But if you just want a Corvette you can just beat the crap out of on a track, then absolutely a C5 Z06. You could buy like half a dozen of those for the price of that new C8.
However, I'd probably regret not getting the MagnaRide just cause.
My dad is 97 and sports a 86 Corvette and a girl friend...
