Engine has to drop. Which is a ridiculous amount of time. Warranty time for engine R&R is just under 30 hours which means I will probably charge more like 40 hours. At $250/hr. Then there’s the various gaskets and valve shims. Also about $500 of one time use fasteners get replaced in the process as well.

Jesus. They use aluminum bolts like BMW?

You can get some fire sale pricing plus 0% for 84 months plus 120 days deferred payment on any leftover C7s. Or really any other GM except the new C8.

Factory got out a couple thousand cars before the shutdown. But yeah, once production resumes, most if not all of the run for 2020 is presold.

There will of course be some cancellations. Some dealers didn’t take orders and got cars for inventory, which they are trying to get a huge ADM for right now. But it will be quite some time before anyone can get an actual discount on a C8.

I’m not sure even how long it will be before anyone can just go and test drive one. I gotta admit, I’d love to try the C8. I’ve watched a ton of videos from YouTube people and everyone raves about the new DCT 8 speed and the interior. And some have pointed out how isolated the passenger seat is. I wasn’t happy with the headroom situation in the C8 I sat in over six months ago, but like I said back then, you couldn’t move the seat. That said, I’d never give up my C7 for one. But I’d be crazy to not want to see how different it drives.

We actually will be car shopping later this year. Just depends on where I’m working when the time comes on whether it’s a new one for me because she took my super cheap Acura lease, or if it’s for her because I got a company car from another manufacturer, or both of us. Some other things have to happen too. But it’ll be great if these financing deals are still going on. But we don’t qualify for the $1200.

I want to see one of these at thill in capable hands. If it can’t do 57’s or under stock in the 3mile cyclone config, I’d relegate it to poser status.

I forgot the track, but they ran head to head in the press launch and they managed to beat a C7 Grand Sport by one second. Not sure what that’s going to equate to at the setup you’re looking at.

The C8 has amazing acceleration in the first couple gears from the looks of all the videos I’ve seen. Super short gears is how they did it despite the high curb weight. That fantastic 0-60 time requires it to hit third gear. Totally see why they made it that way though. It’s an impressive thing that everyone can do with the car. There was some poll on corvetteforum about how fast have you driven your C7 and some of the speeds posted are shockingly low. Seems like a lot of these buyers have no desire (or balls) to much past 100.

Anyways, a time that might be more indicative of how good it will be on a track is 60-130. The new C8 is in the high 10s. Which compared to the C7 Grand Sport is about a half to full second quicker. But then you factor in that the Grand Sport has better brakes and more mechanical grip, then you see why they’re still pretty close around a track. An old C6 Z06 is 2 seconds quicker. A C7 Z06 is 3 seconds quicker. And the king of roll racing, the ZR1 is 4 seconds quicker.

But. The C8’s power is more accessible which makes the car less of a handful to drive at its limit. So I bet with average drivers, it should be producing faster lap times than Z51/Grand Sport C7s.

y thill cyclone?

the best test is the 'ring

still waiting for their laptime for that, it should crush the supercars between 1-200k right for 60k?

True, but on different tires. C8 on better tire which easily accounts for the gap. However it was a GS, and the c8 just s z51, so there's that. A c8 GS would like drop s bit more time.

The C8 was driven by Corvette Racing C8.R driver Oliver Gavin and set a 7:29.9 lap time. To be honest, that time ain’t that big a deal anymore.

Multiple attempts were made with C7s. GM engineer Jim Mero got a C7 Grand Sport to come in at 7:27. Mero and some others have gotten the C7 Z06 to come in the 7:1X range. And Mero got the C7 ZR1 to turn a 7:05 but he believes the car was capable of sub 7, they just had too many constraints when they made their attempt.

Yup. If that GS had the Z07 package which comes with Cup 2 tires and ceramic brakes, it actually would’ve beat the new C8.

It’s a big heavy, but this new C8 is a pretty good start. Z06 version should be just bananas fast.
