I’m having trouble buying that the key fob is the cause.

My C6 trunk latch won’t pop unless the parking brake is engaged. The same goes for my current or past cars. None will pop the latch if the car is in gear (auto), or parking brake isn’t engaged.

I'd want to look for more info but all Google serves is old BS from Action Media Inc...

Surprised they didn’t make the front trunk fold forward.

Well there is some storage there. So while a forward hinged hood has been a Corvette thing since the very beginning, would have been silly to lift stuff over the fenders. Though in hindsight, easy access to a paltry 3 cubic feet of storage, cost them a lot of embarrassment and money with all these flying hoods. Or they could’ve just added a secondary safety latch...like you know, every other car pretty much ever has. From what I’ve seen on corvetteforum, there are already quite a few members of the flying hood club.

This is all on top of the chance to join the flying roof club (which I joined about 15 years ago) should a Corvette owner forget to latch down the targa roof before driving off.

Had a buddy do that with his old Trans Am lol. RE: Frunk - I think it's small enough that it's unlikely anyone is putting anything overly bulky or heavy in there, and the car is not that tall. Making the hood hinge forward would have easily been worth it imo.

I was always a little worried about doing that with my t-tops on the Camaro I used to have. That or dropping one while putting it in.

I think that it's really an issue of vertical space over the frunk if you had the hood hinge the opposite direction. In order to have enough space, a hood that hinges the opposite direction would need to open up past 90 degrees. I just keep looking at pics and think how much of a pain in the ass it would be to get at the frunk if the hood hinged the opposite way.

I like when Doug gives a car a handling score based on his stoplight to stoplight impressions driving the streets of San Diego

They could install hood pins, which would be more than a little comical on a hood with no engine underneath. :laughing

I haven’t read any details of the recall, but I imagine it’s going to be a software update that inhibits the frunk release from operating when any vehicle speed is detected and/or the transmission is not in Park. Maybe a bigger more attention getting warning on the dash and speakers too. Software updates are cheap and easy. Still can’t believe they didn’t just have a secondary safety catch.

It was a software update. The fob requires 2 presses to open the frunk, the second press must be a longer press. The car is now limited to 26mph if it senses trunk is open.

GM screwed this up. It should have had a latch, and the mechanism shouldn’t work if not in park.

Interesting that the software update was ‘over the air’. I was unaware that GM moved in that direction. I imagine that won’t sit well with some owners. There’s more than a few threads on the forum where owners disconnected the Onstar due to the paranoia of being tracked.

Those owners probably went straight to Facebook on their smartphone to complain about the tracking.

:laughing

My favorite thing is all the paranoid shit they post about on corvetteforum along with personal details. A forum ran by a company who makes money off selling it all to anyone willing to pay. That place is crazy town through and through.
