I bought a bottle of that "Duke" several years ago - pretty decent sipping ...

Have you tried this, see below. I may pick up a bottle for the hell of it.

It's a Glenlivet Founder's Reserve kinda evening. Mellow, smooth and easy to enjoy.

On this blustery eve it's a dram or two of Laphroaig Select for me.
Warm, smokey and not too peaty.

Someone brought this over...more of a shooting than sipping whiskey but the bottle is phenomena (that is the bottle).

reminded me a bit of something around Johnny walker black label quality. the bottle was cool though, glad I only bought a 1oz bottle of it. Not terribly bad Whiskey but not worth the price.

Why choose a Scotch instead of an American whiskey? Isn’t that like a Frog celebrating Bastille Day with a Coors Light?

:laughing I do have a bottle of JD's Gentleman Jack. Had it for years, was a gift. Did take a wee sip and that was enough of a head shaker for me and put it back in the cabinet. 'Sides, none of my relatives are from Tennessee. :toothless

As for Coor's Light, never bought it and probably have had only 4-5 cans every. And that was out of sheer desperation. Tried a Bud Light once. Light beers, why bother!

Oh, having a Glenlivet 12 tonight, uniquely different from the 15.
Both very drinkable, although the 15 is much more refined.

I think regular jack is better than Gentleman's jack, never been a fan of that bottle.

Coor's light is an excellent beer for what it is. something cheap you can drink throughout the day on a hot one and not get too hammered while staying hydrated.

Friday night, a taste of something new to me from the Highlands - Glen Garioch, 12 Year, Bourbon and Sherry Casks

First sip was creamy smooth. Brought back memories of Lochan Ora (Golden Loch), a Scotch whiskey liqueur sweetened with herbs and heather honey. If you've tired Drambuie you'd really, really like Lochan Ora. Sadly, Lochan Ora hasn't been available in the US for years and years.

Time to light the fire and enjoy a second dram and the warmth of both.

Gentleman Jack is twice filtered through the sugar maple charcoal whereas black label only goes through once. That's literally the only difference between it and black label. The rest of the process of producing, blending, aging and bottling is the same. Supposedly it's supposed to be "mellower" than black label, but I've never honestly been able to really discern a difference.

Single Barrel variations on the other hand...well, let's just say if you're ever going to buy any JD, that's where your money should go. Don't even waste your time on the other two versions.

We buy a bottle every 2 years or so and it lasts for about one as it is a special occasion thing even though for a 25 year old single malt it is relatively "inexpensive" under $200.
