Then there was the 2nd interview where I landed the job. So back to Sasa and I splurged on this motherfucker - 21-year Hibiki. Fuck..... Me.

I paired with goddamned pork belly skewers. Nothing but win.

Very new to Whiskey, always been a Rum man. I enjoy Knob Creek for sipping. I just can't read 14 pages of this string to try and develop an idea of a good smooth sippin' whiskey that has a reasonable price i.e. < $50.

I fear this may be like asking for the best motor oil, but I'll stick my neck out.....

Broke down and got a handle of Kirkland blended Scotch. Possibly the best value likker ever. It is not top shelf, but it also is not garbage. Perfectly drinkable, middle of the road, good for sippin’ n’ watching the teevee.

I am sure I’ll get a ration of shit for it, but srsly, best value ever.

Thanks for that. I was wondering but didn't want to spend the money. Their Gin is just fine.

I haven't read every page of this thread but I did some xmas shopping on Saturday and went to "Cask" on College Avenue. That is a nice store and I guess there is one in SF too. They got a buttload of every kind of whisky and other booze and their prices aren't really out of line. Nice people too.

It was something ridiculous like $20 for a handle OTD. You can do A LOT worse.

Recedite, plebes!
Having a dram (or two) of Glenfarclas, 12 Year, Highland (Speyside), Single Malt right now. You know, just to take the chill off the night air. :)

Founded 1836, then bought by J&G Grant in 1865 and still in family hands.

Maybe their 25 year old just might ring in the New Year!

That's a near useless article. The bottles already say that they are bottled by Murray. Where Murray sources the spirit is still unknown. Could be from more than one distillery. The blends are more than likely from multiple distilleries. Murray is already well known as an independent bottler.

Similar to the Kirkland bottlings, I've always been happy with the whiskies under the Trader Joe's brand- and if you look at the fine print on the back, they will tell you who the manufacturer is.

Haven’t tried TJ whiskey.

I did. On purpose.

2 things:
- when I bought it, I explicitly wanted to cook a couple of dishes with using whiskey de-glazing. that worked, WELL :thumbup

- .. when you take in the price.. the highland I got is fine. for the price is OK. Close your eyes a bit and it's okay.

.. that said, I Tried only one out of like 5? or 7? total scotches and bourbons with the TJ label ... explicitly picked up a highland single-malt (for my taste..) (I did find it a bit watery.. but hey THE PRICE)

I don’t pop into TJ’s much lately, but I will keep that in mind.

Their brandy was French and cheap and like I said, ok, not great. I will stick with E&J VSOP. It’s the ONE thing Gallo does well ha!

So I like 4 roses as a cheap whiskey. For like $19.99 I'm not sure there is a better cheap one. Their single barrel and select are really good but the price goes up.

For rye I like Bulleit rye never lets me down.

I just picked up some Hazelburn scotch at BevMo for half off. Goes on the shelf with the other unopened bottles for now.
