Tour de France 2020

2wheels good 4wheels bad
seems like the tour is all slavs and columbians with a few spaniards/italianos and brits sprinkled in there for good measure

fun listening to Mr Roll talk about how the stages have evolved recently ... think he was saying the Tour these days is now harder and maybe favors climbers ...? :dunno

The riders from Columbia all seem to be wonderful climbers, anyway ...
and it looks like we have five Colombians in the GC top ten today? :ride

He also said that eight man teams have perhaps limited the participation of some riders ... he was specifically talking about the future of Mr Cavendish.

enjoyed this:
Tour de France 2020: First Rest Day Review

idk ... two French riders in the GC top-five, maybe I’ll root for France ... :laughing

anyway, fun to think about how a sport becomes dominated for a time by different nationalities ...

I’m not concerned much about the different nationalities in this year’s tour. I’m most shocked at the kids coming in and blowing everyone away in just their first or second year in the tour.

Wasn't Pablo Escobar Colombian? Coincidence? ;)

we have to draw the line somewhere, because it’s snort a good idea to look for cokeincidences ... :toothless

in other news, Mr Prudhomme and three other team support people test positive for Covid ... guess I can add rooting for the race to go the distance to my list of TdF things to root for. :dunno

Watched yesterday's stage in 10 minutes just fast forwarding to the end, will likely do the same today.

Looks like the Sagan Era is almost over.

Yuppers. I doubt that he will ever get the green jersey back.

speaking of Mr. Sagan ... :facepalm

Did he get a penalty for shoving that guy out of the way within feet of the line?

He certainly deserved one.

I don't want to google it as there could be spoilers of today's race which looks a bit more interesting than the last two boring days, (other than the sprints).

let’s just say Mr Sagan didn’t get any closer to green, yesterday ...

can’t wait for today’s stage! rooting for #77 to get away in what’s supposed to be another good day for a break away ... :ride

^ Yeah, that’s about 14,500 feet of climbing in one day. For reference, riding to the Lick observatory from San Jose is only 5,000 feet of climbing, and Mt. Hamilton is not very steep.

I don't know seems over reaction. Door was open he went for it. Between shitty barrier design and rider in front moving back to the right he had to keep that space open. At that point couldn't slow down, that probably would have caused a crash.

They totally had to. I forgot what race it was, but there was a similar incident during a sprint at another race just before the Tour except that one of the riders went down and got seriously injured. That type of reaction from the judges has been coming.

One of the older guys mentioned something along these lines: "In the 80's, nothing would have happened. In the 90's, he would have gotten a warning. Now, the judges had to relegate him after what happened earlier in the year."

Yeah it was with Cavendish, who clipped the fence and went down hard. Sagan is known to play rough, and maybe pushed it too far too often.

Cavendish did that ALL the time and got away with it most times IIRC.

Nope. I was talking about Fabio Jacobson’s crash during the final sprint at the Tour of Poland. He got really fucked up. This is still fresh in everyone’s minds. They HAD to penalize Sagan after this happened. They had no choice.

Edit: they were probably going 40+ mph.

Oh that, yeah that was horrific crash.

I rewatched it multiple times, and I just don't know. Rider on the right was trying to squeeze in to pretty right space. Rider in yellow was moving off the sprint line.

edit: Sorry, I just realized you were talking about the Jacobsen crash. Yes, it was the fault of the guy in yellow. He veered from his line and caused Jacobsen to crash into the immovable barrier. (He freely admitted that it was his fault.) The only reason it didn't happen in Stage 11 of the Tour de France is that Van Aart has some extra special bike handling skills and was able to stay vertical.
