Is anyone else watching? I don’t feel like paying $60 for NBC Sports Gold, so I’m happy that they’re at least posting 20-minute highlights on YouTube. Holy shit! That was a clusterfuck of a first stage!

Big mountain day tomorrow! They apparently have not had a big mountain stage so early in the tour in something like 40 years. Shit is getting real quick this year.

By the way, I haven’t been paying attention. When did they switch to disc brakes, and when did the traditional quick release wheel skewers go away? It was so weird seeing them use a power screw driver to remove the front wheel.

I should check it out. The Tour is a pretty spectacular event.
I do have Campy sidepulls on my Ciocc roadbike... and toeclips.

Edit, roadbikes are way to dangerous for me. 130 at the racetrack is way more sane. 50 on Mt Hamilton road. Spandex life is crazy.

Yeah, I went 65 on my road bike without pedaling going down the Cuesta Grade on 101 just North of San Luis Obispo. At the time, it didn’t seem so bad. Nowadays, I kinda feel like I got lucky.

I’ve been 189 mph on my ZX-12 at the salt flats. 15 mph on my WR426 scared me more. You probably don’t remember, but I’m so glad I didn’t let you convince me to buy your old CR500 as much first dirt bike. :teeth

I catch up on highlights, but that is about it.

Disc brakes have been making their way in in earnest for last two-three years. I think for critical stages/important riders they still go with rim because that's what neutral support has.

wasn't watching but tnx for the video...

... doesn't it zing a little when the announcer at the beginning said "late start of the tour, and 1 month I wouldn't have thought this is possible, but here we are!!!"..

.. because it does for me.

There is a neutral wheel support, those are rim brakes. So of Rider flats and there are no team cars near by they can grab a wheel from them.

With rim brakes, they pretty much for any bike. With disk brakes it is more trickie. Putting a side different rotor sizes on some manufacturers, there is an issue with hub spacing. So chances are if you put different wheel in, pads/rotor will rub.

On channel 723 on Comcast.

Many teams I fear will be kicked out as that happens if 2 team members test positive.

But maybe like MotoGP this year it will be better than usual.

Roadies can keep their rim brakes.

Rotors were one of the best things to ever happen to MTB, along with dropper seat posts, great suspension, better geometry tires etc etc.

Oh, man. Stage 2 was awesome! That finish was a nail-biter. I totally though the break away was gonna get caught by the peloton at the hairy end.

I’m kinda disappointed by Peter Sagan’s performance so far. I’m not used to seeing him getting beat on the sprints.

Good stuff! :thumbup

I just heard a new wrinkle for this year’s race. It now makes sense why all the teams are hitting it so hard so early in the race. Apparently, after Day 9, is their first rest break. During that break, all the riders are getting Covid tests. If enough of them are positive, they plan to cancel the rest of the race, whoever is in the lead then will be declared the winner.

So, it appears that everyone is treating this year’s race like it’s going to be a 9-day race. So, if the race isn’t cut short, people are going to be seriously hurting during Week 3 of the race.

Shit just got more interesting...

Also, did anyone else hear about the soap sponsor? It’s one of the reasons why there were so many crashes on Stage 1. It was an 8-lap race, and just before the race, one of the floats with a soap sponsor decided that it would be a good idea to blow bubbles and drop a bunch of their soap onto the course. Freaking geniuses!
