I haven’t followed it in years, what up?

The new thought is go on online forums and follow two posts consecutively. It tests "critical thinking" :laughing

:twofinger

Also, did anyone else hear about the soap sponsor? It’s one of the reasons why there were so many crashes on Stage 1. It was an 8-lap race, and just before the race, one of the floats with a soap sponsor decided that it would be a good idea to blow bubbles and drop a bunch of their soap onto the course. Freaking geniuses!

What.... The.... Fuck....

I remember where there was endless debate on MTBR.com that disc brakes were only for Down Hill Mountain Bikes and should not be on cross country race bikes. Then all mountain bikes switched to disc.

Same for cyclocross Bikes.

Now its road bikes.

So, today’s stage made me realize that there are a lot of new badass kids in the sport, and I need to learn their names. Kind of a bummer what happened to the guy who earned the King of the Mountian Jersey then crashed on the descent.

So, I just heard that Caleb Ewan, who won stage 3, was pumping out a peak of 1,600 Watts during his final sprint to the line. Holy shit! The scary thing is that most sprinters that can put out that kind of power are huge guys. Caleb is 5’4” and maybe 120lbs soaking wet. That power to weight ratio is why he flew by everyone on that sprint yesterday!

Admittedly I don’t know a single rider in the race, but I pretty much will watch any kind of racing cause... racing. Great thread! Yes, stages 2 and 3 finishes were amazing. Loved watching the mob (peloton) split the roundabouts. I do like the finish best followed by a fast decent. I’ve been taping the races, but... no way can I concentrate on a bike race for 3 to 4 hours. Enjoyed your recap vid.

Just fast forward till you see the course map showing the main challenges and then fast forward to those.

Yesterday I fast forwarded till about 10 miles to go.

That was, essentially, the whole race.

In mountain stages I generall fast forward to each mountain approach.

But, mind you, by doing that you do miss a lot of fantastic scenery and discussion of the history behind certain structures/areas.

What are some good recap online sources? Preferably that don't require signing in.

NBC Sports has a Youtube page where they post 20-minute highlights of the day’s stage at around noon. If that’s too long, they also post 5-minute highlights as well.

I agree about the historical commentary. Just don't have that kind of time Covid quarantine aside. The last 10 miles are really cool. :thumbup

I wish we had a Like or Up Vote button. Thanks for the hint. :thumbup

So, today’s drama after the stage was complete in case you haven’t heard. Julian Alaphilippe lost the yellow jersey because they docked him 20 seconds for grabbing a water bottle in the last 20 km. That is such the crap way to lose the yellow jersey.

Did he held on to it for a bit too long?

There is a rule that forbids riders from “feeding” in the last 20km of the race. In other words, you’re not allowed to grab a bottle from your support member standing at the side of the road like he did.

Yes, it’s against the rules, but the UCI has been selective about enforcing their rules.

quite a finish by Mr Teuns and what a cool finish it was with the dirt and tip-top of the mountain ... :ride
