Buddy's co-op is closed for gatherings, and podcasts are done via zoom.

There have been 23,000 deaths from flu.

Flu season started in Sept thereabouts.........why wasn’t anyone concern about the impact of the Flu..
this is a hot garbage take. In the context of this pandemic, you clearly don't know wtf you're talking about.

Meanwhile, in India, doctor's are being evicted from their homes over virus fears....

Indian doctors being evicted from homes over coronavirus fears
Doctors and medical workers in India are being ostracised from communities, evicted from their homes and forced to sleep in hospital bathrooms and on floors over fears they may be carrying coronavirus.

In cases reported across the country, healthcare professionals described the growing stigma they are facing from their neighbours and landlords, resulting in many being refused taxis, barricaded from their own homes, or made homeless.

One doctor who is overseeing a coronavirus rapid response team asked to remain anonymous to avoid trouble with the authorities, described how two fellow medics had requested to stay with him after their landlords had become increasingly hostile to them and asked them to leave their homes.

“Their landlords said that since they are working in hospitals, they will bring the infection home and spread it among others,” he said. “Many doctors around India have already complained about the same.”

He added: “Quite a few doctors have decided to spend the next few days in the restrooms of hospitals because they have lost their apartments or could not get into the apartments because of the hostility from the people of their community.”
Fuck that kind of attitude.

These doctors should go to other countries that would welcome them with open arms at this time.

It's easy to say when one has access to relatively good, reliable medical care if they were to get sick. If you are of the lower classes in India (and really anywhere), your life isn't worth as much as another person's. I totally get where you're coming from, but people are reacting out of fear. Being afraid, rational, and compassionate is a rare combination when faced with what we're going through.

This situation is bringing out the Best and the Worst in people. When base instincts come into play, then you see what people are really all about.

Such short-sighted response is a reflection of selfishness on an instinctive level.

We're all in this together and healthcare workers are the ones who are doing most for society today, including theirs. To treat them in that manner is repugnant to the extreme.

I don't give them a free pass just because they are scared or that they're poor, it's just shitty people reacting in a shitty, selfish way.

Some of the very best people I know have very little, and yet they continue to give their time and limited funds to others around them.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's super-frustrating. It rarely works to tell people how to behave though. One can only do what they feel is right and hope to lead by example. These people aren't behaving out of hate or maliciousness (probably)--they're doing it because they don't want to see their loved ones in harm's way. That's probably something we can all relate to right now, even if the path they've chosen to get there isn't the one we might take.

Just an aside about numbers
The population of MaArin County is roughly 260,000

COVID-19 activity in Marin:
Marin County Emergency Operations Center COVID-19 Dashboard
Marin Confirmed Cases: 98 (5.37% increase from yesterday)
Marin Deaths: 4
Marin Persons Tested (at point of testing site): 716
Marin Hospitalizations: 14
Thos are yesterdays statistics. From what I understand testing is increasing and more people are being referred for testing. What we have not been told is how many tests are still pending it takes 7-10 days for test results to come back.

Nevermind that the very people they're ostracizing are the ones they'll go to if their loved ones get sick and expect those very doctor's to sacrifice all to treat them.

When this kind of behavior starts, a logical next phase is that when they take their sick loved on to the hospital and they die, then they kill the doctor even though it wasn't the doctor's fault.

This kind of mindless behavior is something one wouldn't expect from a thinking, reasoning individual, and when it does happen it's because they have descended to an animal level of reaction.
