:thumbup to BARF and Budman! I haven't seen these signs yet but my new commute is against traffic and I sometimes take the back roads. :)

I saw the sign Friday and night and let a big cheer. Glad to finally see some moto awareness being spread around. My first though after "woo hoo" was that this was the work of the team of BARFERs whom are working on moto safety measures. Reading this thread tells me I was right.

Thank you message sent to Caltrans. And a big thank you to Budman, Silversvs and anyone else on BARF involved in making this happen.

CHP tries to improve motorcycle safety

From staff reports
Posted: 01/21/2010 01:04:27 PM PST

California. The California Highway Patrol will begin a two-year effort to reduce motorcycle-involved fatal collisions and injuries by 5 percent in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange and San Bernardino counties .

"The number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities, especially in these four counties, continues to be troubling," CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. "With the help of this grant and the cooperation of motorcyclists and motorists alike, hopefully we can reverse this trend."

The CHP will implement a 24-month traffic safety program focusing on motorcycle fatalities and injuries throughout the high-risk counties. The project will involve enforcement from the air and a public education campaign.

The effort also will include the production of two public service announcements that will promote the use of helmets and raise awareness of sharing the road with motorcyclists.

Fifteen motorcycle safety presentations will be conducted in the four high-risk areas, and at least nine motorcycle safety enforcement operations will take place in areas with a high number of motorcycle incidents.

The program is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Every time I see it, the first thing i think of is.. RIDING SEASONs COMING Up :)
I've been seeing so many bikes on the road lately though. :D!

Thanks budman, silversvs, and everyone else involved with this! It was a great feeling to see the signs... especially when I went out for a ride today for the first time since they've been put up :thumbup

Above all I like to play.
Late to the discussion, but I saw it too. I want to thank whoever helped make this happen, Rel, Budman, CHP, LEOs, *whoever*. The amazing feeling of validation was wonderful relief from my normal detect-avoid-defend attitude. (Of course my riding was unchanged though.)

Now to read the thread... ;o)

I was going to post this up but forgot... So far, I've seen them on at least 5 signs all over the bay. 80W & 80E once across the Bay Bridge and all the way up and down 880 from Oakland to San Jose. I was surprised as well.

The prettiest one I saw was over the weekend. I was up in in South Tahoe and the motorcycle sign was against a backdrop of a white snow-covered mountain and a beautiful bright blue sky.
I didn't have my camera, but you get the picture. :p

I noticed those signs on the freeways too- kudos to whoever was responsible. I would actually be willing to pay a monthly service fee for more motorcycle safety promoting/awareness campaigns that would get this kind of exposure to the general driving public in our area.

I'm waiting for:

Hit a motocyclist = jail

:laughing

Hit Motorcyclist = Immediate Execution
