I think an effective campaign to change drivers view on motorcyclists over time would be if more people had bumper stickers on their cars like "My Dad rides a motorcycle, please ..." "My Sister rides a motorcycle..."

People need to understand that people from all walks of life ride. A lot of people ignorantly think that all motorcyclists are the reckless law-breaking types that don't deserve to live (in their minds).

Well, obviously , the message didn't teach jack-anything to most drivers quoted below and especially the one that says ".. I can't see you.. " .. That's why the message says "Look twice", duh.

Well, here's the cagers response to the signs. At least they noticed them....
Q Why not post a message that reads: .. or "Motorcyclists, you're harder to see so don't drive in a car's blind spot." "...

and of course the answer-columnist of this SJ Mercury column is known to hate motorcyclists anyway. :rolleyes

But boy, the article from san diego is even better:

About a dozen callers angrily complained that it wasn’t their job to watch out for motorcyclists who speed, double up in lanes with cars or otherwise ride aggressively.

And whose job is it then!!!??? When one drives it is one's job to watch out for the road and others!

Interesting.. the SD article goes on to say that only the San Diego area has received angry driver calls.. who knows why? Could it be because it's a Republican county? :rofl :rolleyes :later

Retribution is at hand!
I sent a thank you eMail to CalTrans and they replyed...

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

The messages on the boards ran statewide for the whole week, and was a cooperative effort between Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.

We received many, many emails and calls from riders telling us how much they appreciated the messages, which were designed to increase awareness for motorists and motorcyclists alike.

Ride safe and thanks again,

May is Motorcycle Awareness month. May 1st the signs showed up again. Barfers on the council are back at it. Good work, guys.

Now that the cagers are getting more "awareness", hopefully the riders can be a tad more civilized for at least a month ...
