    Santa Clara County Lockdown

Also affects several other counties around here: https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/DiseaseInformation/novel-coronavirus/Documents/03-16-20-Health-Officer-Order-to-Shelter-in-Place.pdf So no riding for me for the next 3 weeks. I use the cage for 'essential' (meaning grocery) trips.

Son crashed a bike on test ride, dealer deal legit?

So my son crashed a bike on a test ride (brand new). $1600 worth of damage (low-speed drop at a stop-sign). They sold it to him and promised a buy back in 30 days at $2,000 less than the new price if he didn't like the bike. It's a good bike for him I think, but is this deal they offered him...

New commute 101S huge rut from Great america to 87 exit

What's with the rut between lane 1 and 2? And the pavement heights mostly don't match. Makes lane splitting a bit scary. Is this caltrans reportable? It runs the entire length of my thankfully short stretch on 101. Kinda wondered if anyone ever went down because of it. Or if you just get used...

best way to get from 280/bird Ave to Great america

edit: title should say 280, not 208. Considering a new job, it's on Bowers by Great America, and I live where Bird Ave enters 280, but access to the Alma entrance to 87 N is also convenient. I can go up 87, then 101, but I hear 101 is the most motorcycle-hostile road in the world (or close)...

    My registration has expired

Problem is I can't remember if I paid it, my credit card history is online and has to be searched month by month and I don't know what to search for, DMV didn't find anything. Anybody know if there is a way to find out? I am going to call AAA tomorrow and ask if I can do it through them, to...

    0% chance of rain, really

I was going to post a rant about how this is the second time I got rained on when the weather channel app said 0% chance of rain, then I noticed I still had it set to Orlando FL for the xmas vacation, my bad. :laughing Now it says 100%, that's better... No I didn't ride, but I was all suited...

    Daylight savings time this weekend

For me, it means the ride home will be in the dark. Last year I learned to take the first few days extra slow until my splitting-in-the-dark skills get refreshed. I'm also putting on the amber lenses on the clearwaters, so they will stand out more in the sea-of-lights on 280SB.

    Fleas in my boots, really?

Neighbor has a new outdoor cat, that is hosting a flea hotel on its body. Our doors face each other (condos) over a carpeted area, and the cat now lives right there in front of my door. So I have to walk over a flea infested area before and after every ride to work. I took pity on the...

    As promised, some clearwater shots.

Here is my upgraded lightage... The brightness knob is my new favorite gizmo, and I am getting it dialed in, walking around in front day and night to see what brightness levels are bright enough but not causing trouble to others. Seems just over half brightness is really bright during the day...

Three cutoffs in one ride, what to do

Yesterday on the ride home, splitting south on 280, I got cut off while splitting three times - this is unusual. Due to low speed delta I was able to easily brake or swerve for them, but had an ABS activation for one because I hit the center bumps of the lane divider. All of these were at...

Studies on age vs moto riding

The other OG thread got me to thinking about this, and google got me into trouble (as usual): The first study: They attempt to answer if being older provides any reduced chances of accidents: http://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/6/1/32 They find a large benefit occurs if you are over 25...

    Single-lane braking technique for commuting

This is a piece of advice I wish someone had told me when I began commuting in traffic, in unfortunately long-winded form. :-) This is about a simple braking technique for commuting in traffic on the highway that really changed things for me. I am not talking about splitting, this is for when...

How much does geometry affect ride

Long story short, after going through many bikes, and being forced by my aging back to pick ones that have very cushy rides, I now have a few points of comparison and the following make me curious: - dual shocks on the back of a cruiser = harsh ride no matter what shocks you put on it. - my...

Rant: Every bike I've every owned is a beginner's bike

EDIT: this post is 100% satire, although much is factual, based on some memorable (in my mind) BARF threads and themes, and inspired by reviewers that called my new 700 a beginner's bike. I should have waited till April 1st to post it... --- It recently struck me that I've never owned a bike...

Earthquake woke me up last night

Ran down to the garage to make sure nothing fell over... 4.4 in Berkeley from what I can tell. All was fine. Any of you guys live through the last big one with motos? I became a rider long after.
