Daylight savings time this weekend

For me, it means the ride home will be in the dark.

Last year I learned to take the first few days extra slow until my splitting-in-the-dark skills get refreshed.

I'm also putting on the amber lenses on the clearwaters, so they will stand out more in the sea-of-lights on 280SB.

I really hope Prop 7 passes so we can work towards permanent DST. For me there is no benefit to an earlier sunrise, only a later sunset. Give me back my evenings during winter. Or better yet, have the federal government make it permanent across the board.

+1. It's pretty depressing to leave work when it's already dark outside.

gone for now
even after the time change I'll be getting to work before sunrise (although for a little bit I'll be able to see some light in the sky). at least it'll still be light out when I leave.

It's even more depressing to get to work when it's still dark. Leave my winter sunrises alone, dammit. I don't want it to be dark until after 8AM.

I mean, if you want to get rid of daylight savings time, fine. It kind of makes sense to me to that the sun isnt rising at 430am in the summer, take that light and shift it later so that it's more usable to most people. But during winter months, shift it back so that it's still rising at a reasonable time. California is on Pacific Time, dammit... If you really like the Mountain Time zone that much move to Arizona.

Making it permanent wouldn't change anything between March and now. It changes from now until March. Imagine never changing the clocks this weekend, that how it would be. The long summer days you're used to stay exactly the same.

nope. Federal law dictates that states that don't use DST must be on standard time. It wouldn't be DST year round. and fuck that shit. I'll keep my dawn patrol surf sessions before work, thank you very much.

After this weekend the clock on my triumph will finally be accurate again!

That is why I said in my first comment that we would be working towards that, not outright implementing it. It still needs federal approval. That’s why I said it would be better for the federal government to give up on DST.

I hated commuting in the dark, especially on rainy nights. My employer agreed to let me switch my starting time to 7:00 AM so I only had a darkish morning commute to deal with.

Rain on a visor just adds more anxiety for me, I am wiping my squeegee like crazy to clear my vision.

I had to ride from West Marin when I was working for the County Office of Ed in 2003. I'd leave Bolinas or Inverness after dark and have to ride in driving rain with crazy Marinoid commuters coming at me with their weird Expensive-Car headlights..Bummer going over my favorite road, the Panoramic in those conditions.
I did get to where I pretty much know the Pano and Shoreline like it's tattooed on my eyelids, though. When conditons are good, I own those MFs.

I used to hate going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.

Retired :afm199 so now I am looking forward to the time change so I do not have to walk to the gym in the dark at 6:00 AM.

Wait! You are retired, but have such a tight schedule that you need to be at the gym at 6:00AM?

Since when has the California legislature had any regard for federal laws? California has been led the way in legalizing pot and sanctuary state. Regardless of one's opinions of these controversial topics, it seems disingenuous to say that the state legislature will consider the federal law on a relatively minor subject like DST, beyond a brief inaudible chuckle.
