Why do so many dudes grow shitty looking beards?

I have seen so many crappy looking beards on sports stars and just plain old folks. I am face hair deficient and can’t really get a nice one going so I refrain. I have always been of the mind that if it does not enhance your looks why bother?? Maybe I am a vein SOB.

However again and again I see these awkward and ugly beards.

Why??

Now if you're talking about hipster / trend-of-the-decade beards, then you must be talking about the "squid ink" beard, shown below......A full Muslim style beard that's tapered to a sharp point right by their ear, accompanied by high-n-tight shave around their ears. I say squid ink because it looks like a squid was sitting on their ear and squirted an ink cloud down their cheeks. Personally I think it's dumb, but it's a different generation so.......

I grew a beard when I was around 19 or 20. It wasn't a good look, however it wasn't a great look without a beard either :x
