Why do so many dudes grow shitty looking beards?

Schnellbandit

I see 4 lights!
Skin irritation. I can grow a beard that in a few days looks okay and shortly after is pretty full but can't really stand it. It gets the balaclava all bunched up.

So every 3rd or 4th day I shave with an electric clipper thing and have sandpaper. If I shave closer might was well use sandpaper.

Anyone know of a good face lotion? I'd just as soon go baby face, there are benefits.

Shitty looking or not, it comes down to peer pressure.

I don't feel it's my place to tell a guy what fashion to pursue, however, my preference is for a very short beard or none at all. I spend enough time keeping my own hair out of my mouth--I don't need to be battling yours. And as much as I love the look of a 5 o'clock shadow, we're gonna have to limit kissing to a light peck or two if that's the case. My cheeks and chin don't need to be all torn up for the next week, thank you.

I've had a beard for like 4-5 years recently went clean shaven again, by mine grows super evenly so I can get away with shaving like once a week.

I get that it is masculine to grow a beard. When it fails to deliver why keep it??

I was just watching ESPN and saw King James with a nice thick chin strap that look damn stupid to me. That is why I asked. :laughing

Maybe you're just jealous?

Mr. Bad Example
An old friend of mine with whom I was chuckling about this thread last night reminded me that I grew my first mustache/goatee/jawline combo at age 16 so I could buy alcohol for house parties.

I wore that until senior photos. Shaved it my mother's request and my usual liquor store almost stopped serving me.

Stirling Soap makes great face lotion at a good price.

But maybe the first thing to consider is switching to safety razor or straight razor. I have very sensitive skin, but ever since I switched to the straight razor (specifically a shavette with disposable blades), I get zero irritation and don't need after shave or anything like that.

This is what I've been using, got it on ebay for $10 and enough blades to last me at least five years for $35:

Are you serious? Perhaps at some 20-something "tech" firm, but otherwise....

Because I have a wattle to make a wild tom turkey jealous.

And because an old girlfriend told I wouldn't look so repulsive if I had a bigger chin.

Is it still called 5 o'clock shadow if the hair is all white?

Up here in Salish land, a large majority of the on camera news and talking heads grow the mold all month every year.
Some are very scabby and can be quite off-putting. They do like their jerbs though.

It's a big thing in Australia and the ex-Brittish Empire.
Think it's slopped over the border from B.C.

Those guys will push you out a window if you don't buy and wear a poppy to commemorate WWI at the right time of year.

Almost whack as the right color on St. Paddies Day.

Not in Canada. I mean, they're popular but whatever.

I notice most people with massive beards are either very attractive and the beard won't hurt, or already so generically unattractive it can't hurt.

I grew my goatee out into a full beard over thanksgiving, going further under my chin that I have in the past, down to my Adam's apple. I usually trim it under my jawline. It's mostly grey (like the rest of my hair), with two natural colored patches, one on each lower cheek and jaw. Last night my wife insisted the one on my right jaw was a bruise. I had a crown prep done on my upper right molar yesterday afternoon; I had to show her the other side's brown patch to convince her it was not a bruise. How flattering..... I did get a positive compliment from one of the birds at work today though.
