Who got the Younger?

I love beer and I love IPAs, but I cannot get behind the hype for this. I imagine there's a cool community that forms around camping out for Younger, but that's not for me. I'm glad its for someone.

Couple buddies of mine used to do it once a year, but just at the local pub that would get a keg or two.

It was less about Pliny and moreso that it was an excuse to get together once a year, when usually we wouldn't get to see each other much.

That was cool.

It reminds me a lot of folks who get way into the sneaker scene. I think there's a lot of cool fashion there, and some of the designs get me really excited. But then I see the prices, and the effort folks get into to buy them and then I realize "that's not for me. That's for them"

I wouldn't mind trying some of this special variety, but--definitely wouldn't overpay for it, personally.

I can simply buy the Elder where available, to put it plainly.. :dunno

p.s. plain Steam is on sale ATM, JFYI . TG in SF

It's like the hype for Voodoo donuts in Portland. We waited in line, bought a dozen and found out that they're donuts fer crying out loud.

:laughing thanks

at least I can remove that off the preppy list or something..

You can also cheat and buy them in that college town (Eugene?) because they have a store there so you don't have to brave Portland to try 'em.

When we went to Portland, because it was Thanksgiving weekend, we happened to be there in Pioneer Square or whatever its called for the Xmas tree lighting and I loved the feel of seeing the mayor and other potentates, made it feel small-town. There was even a Trailblazer in the crowd, can't remember his name.

I do think the whole place is a bit overwhelming but it has its charm. Good beer and booze choices, too..

I don't understand the hysteria with this beer.

Especially pre-covid times when friends were telling me they were standing in line for hours for it.

There's no beer in this world worth my time to sit and wait for hours.

But I also understand a lot of people I know need to do it so they can make a yelp or instagram post about it.

Some people wait 12 hours in line for a cell phone they could order online and have delivered to their house with nary a care in the world.

:dunno

I never understood the hype for these beers, but I do not fuck with IPA.

Once every couple of months I'll drive over the hill to Anderson Valley Brewing company in Boonville and pick up a case or two of my favorite beers (Brother David Triple Abbey Ale, Boont Amber Ale) fresh from the brewery and right from the walk-in box.

I used to enjoy Eye of the Hawk from Mendocino Brewing company before they went Tango Uniform.

Can't stand IPA, don't like bitter beer.

You can cheat even more and buy them at Universal CityWalk. They have a shop there.

IPAs are the bestest of beers. :hand

I’d rather go over to Pacifica and get some beer from Lunchbox’s brewery. He makes tasty beer, and he’s a barfer.

The next stimulus check we get, I'm gonna use it to have Mr. Box deliver me some beer all the way down here to Orange County.

Just take it all. :party:party

You are incorrect. Stout is what it's all about. Better flavor, smoother mouth feel, AND higher ABV. They are more besterer. :x

That's one of the reasons I like the Triple Abbey Ale - 10% and smooth, no bitter aftertaste.

I'm pretty sure I had that exact beer once, and I thought it was pretty awful. :laughing

VooDoo doughnuts was way better before it became social media famous. Quality went waaaaaay downhill :afm199

I'd agree if you specify Inperial Stout. Much like IPA There are many ways to do it. Regular stouts are generally lower ab. Guinness for example is 5 or less and tastes like gutter water after the first rain if fall. Stone Inperial Stout is amazeballs, tastes like gymnastics in your mouth and is nearly 11%abv.

[Commence talking to nobody in particular]

I'll agree that Younger is over hyped but it is really good and I'll have some every chance I get. Russian River Brewing isnt the one doing the hyping either, that's the beer dorks.

it's a Triple IPA, a style widely credited as the creation of Russian River brewing. These days they could make more. The DO make more in fact. Last year the family and I accidentally were in santa rosa during this tiMEe of year and walked right in, I had a few with my.pizza and that was that. There was a 20 person line when we left. Covid has amplified the demand again and I have no evidence but this is probably the first time they've shipped it.

Not that many years ago all of RR beer was brewed on the system at the brewery/restaurant (can we just start calling these facilities Brestaurants already?) Which meant even the regular beers were hard to get outside the brewery. 5? Ish years ago yall.might have noticed RR beers became more commonly available. No.more giving the beermonger at whole foods a dry handie to get a 6er of Elder. That's because they opened a dedicated, much larger, brewery. Younger is an expensive time consuming recipe. Brewing it year round, even on their big system, is a big commitment of resources that a still small brewer is probably weary of tying up.

The audience for Younger is comparatively small despite demand. Say in some.magic world there is equal supply of all their beers and no GameStop effect on Younger I'd wager that Elder and Blind Pig individually handily outsell Younger. It's a triple ipa for fuck sake, that's a big beer, and rare is the person that wants more than 1 at a sitting (unless the hype and rarity blah blah blah enters back in) blind pig you can down a pitcher, maybe not so much with Elder, but that's a 2 beer/sitting and if you're having 2 and your friend wants 1 might as well get a pitcher.

If yall really want something unusual try their sours. Anything ending in -ion should be a sour. Desecration, conse ration, damnation etc. Coming soon is VD, and in past years they released a special brew in early February for the lovers with a sense of humor and the Incels: Rejection
