It's not my fault...
We got some Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Whiskey from Mike O'Brien (truckers we use alot -- part of the Irish Mafia construction peeps lol) pretty damn good.

Had a coworker save my ass the other day. I asked him later what kind of libation he enjoys and I got out of him that he likes Johnny Walker. Now, there is definite income disparity between us where I make a lot more. Part of me thinks a great scotch would be good as a thank you. The obvious answer would be JW Blue but I know there are tastier options.

So would you gift him the JWB or a Balvenie 17 Doublewood because it’s so smooth and perfect? Both in the same price range but I don’t want to be paternalistic in my appreciatory gift.

Give him Johnnie Walker Green.

Most people have never heard of it, it's delicious as hell, less than half the cost of Blue (overpriced, bland, marketing hype) and you can strike up a conversation about what he likes or dislikes in it after he's had a few drams.

Under normal circumstances I'm a Bulleit guy.

On related note it looks like Bulleit's founder is in some hot water.

Under optimal conditions I'm a big fan of Whistle Pig. So smooth it gives smooth a new meaning.

Bulleit was great when it was 4 Roses distillate. Not so much a fan since they started doing their own thing, especially since they're trying to ride that SW hype train. Literally zero correlation between the two... but that's marketing.

Whistle Pig is good, but obscenely expensive, and has some pretty shady marketing tactics as well.

Thanks. After thinking about it I still went with the Blue. Which was $40 cheaper at Costco v BevMo.

The gift isn’t about me, or to teach him about what’s what, it’s to show my appreciation.

Too late apparently but the JW Green and Gold are both a better choice over the Blue. Blue is a lot of hype and marketing but it is quite bland. Green is my favorite JW.

JW blue is one of the few drinks that my girlfriend will drink like water. So I make sure to keep at least a 5th on hand at all times. :teeth

Overpriced but nice to have sometimes.

Ya well if he’d said he liked fireball I’d have held my nose and gotten him that. But he said he likes JW and I want him to know how much I appreciate him. I went with the blue because of the hype and status. Personally I prefer basic Bulleit over JWB.

Oooh, JW Green is such a treat!

The Double Black is a favorite here at Casa Villa.

But, free Scotch is ALWAYS the best kind, regardless of which Power Ranger it is.
