VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

I was just griping "Doesn't seem that clean to me..." the other day after being behind a Tiguan belching out a cloud of diesel exhaust. Almost thought they were "Coal Rolling".... :laughing

Riding motos in Euro cities like Madrid will make you a non-believer in diesel cars.

I also love the upper middle class teenagers here in Danville who have their parents buy them F250's instead of BMW's so that they can "rebel" against the mainstream. Then they modify the turbo somehow so that it makes 10 times as much "whistle" noise. :rolleyes

well, so much for my "economical" 44mpg commuter car...

well, technically it is more economical deleting all the emission system since it runs more efficient without.

adding all the emission safety nets is only one side of the coin. clean(er) air but more toxic gases. problem with the filtration system in diesel engine is that they capture only "big" particles in nano-size, but the really harmful stuff can not be filtered and ends up in out lungs / blood bonding with cells creating all sorts of diseases.

personally i'd rather black smoke i actually see, instead of having unburned carbon happily sticking to my blood cells.

Thats why those lifted diesel pickups are called Bro-Dozers.

I keep waiting for the Feds to clamp down on the fact that just about every high end sports car sold these days is equipped with a button that opens valves in the exhaust that makes them blow right past legal decibel levels. Not that I'm against it, just seems weird that they don't stop what is obviously just an end around on the law.

On the original topic, if is pretty shocking that VW/Audi would have done what they did in this case, given the potentially huge fine they were risking, not to mention the inevitable avalanche of lawsuits.

if VWs were made in china the offending code monkeys and their immediate manager would have been executed.

All part of the plan to destroy 'Murica, they would have been hailed as Our Glorious Destroyers of Western Capitalist Murderers. Duh.

Also. VAG is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuked.

The Feds are making Chrysler buy back defective vehicles because of not reporting properly.

That's for not reporting an "oh shit".

VAG intentionally designed a cheat into every vehicle. I would think that will bring about a pretty harsh penalty and hopefully customers are made whole on their purchase. VAG better get ready for action a few inches back.

For all the aholes that acted superior for your green credentials over my old truck...well it still passes Smog. :twofinger

EPA can shush up. I'll just leave this little trip right here.

If such a class action lawsuit were to come about, the end result would likely be the lawyers pocketing a ton of cash and all of the owners getting a $2k certificate towards the purchase of a new Volkswagen. I'm serious.

A proper modern class action lawsuit gets the lawyers nearly all the money and the plaintiffs $2.00 each.
Climber you are slipping.

Yes, I am slipping, I remembered it as a $2k certificate (reason I used that amount), but it was actually a $1k certificate..
GM Fuel Tanks Pickup Truck Class Action Lawsuit Certificate Claim Period

Consumer Class Members had 15 months from April 18, 2001 to:

  • use their Certificate for $1,000 toward the best price they can negotiate for an eligible vehicle;
  • give their Certificate to any family member residing in their household who can use it for $1,000 toward an eligible vehicle purchase;
  • sell their Certificate along with any sale of their GM Truck to any third party and the purchaser can use the Certificate for $1,000 toward an eligible vehicle purchase; or
  • sell their Certificate to any third party who can exchange it for a Third Party Certificate for $500 ($250 if used with any other rebate or discount) toward the purchase of an eligible vehicle during the remainder of the 15 month period.

They designed a cheat program for that too. You didn't actually get 48.1 MPG. :twofinger

Years ago I received a check (which I never cashed) for some class action lawsuit. Something about how some card fee was calculated. I had the letter and attached check for $0.03 displayed on the fridge for a long time. That's right, postage to send me the check cost a lot more than my due compensation.

Class action suits = legal extortion.
