No More AMA On SPEED

:rolleyesFor all of you that are continuing to whine about SPEED, I'm going to repost my earlier post....

For all you people that are on the late train, FX (which owns SPEED) is getting out of the sports network business altogether. SPEED is going to be rebranded as FOX Sports 1 and just be an all sports channel. Speed has really turned to crap over the last few years anyway.

I don't know what's going to happen to AMA racing but FOX Sports 1 plans to air the F1 races, delayed of course, which doesn't make sense since the vast majority of the races start between 11pm and 5am PST. :dunno

I hope they're smart enough to retain the same commentators instead of using some ignorant American that's clueless about F1... but I'm sure the coverage will be dumbed-down and full of NASCAR commercials.:|

Isn't SPEED just a channel that sells air time? I think NBC Sports cable channel and the CBS Sports cable channel are the same.

The same company as always, Chet Burkes Productions, would still shoot, produce and sell advertising for all the AMA races. IIRC, The AMA (or now DMG) just buys time and Chet Burkes Productions just hands SPEED a completed program for the agreed upon time slot. I believe its similar for WSBK and MotoGP. They make deal with SPEED to buy a time slot and the content provider (now Dorna) produces the program and sells the ads. Its not like SPEED sends a production crew out for ANY motorcycle racing.

I think SPEED only pays for programming that can make money on its own like NASCAR, F1 and all the reality shows.

I'd guess NBC Sports and CBS Sports cable channels operate the same way. I wouldn't expect coverage to be any different because, as I understand it, the people producing the shows are all exactly the same, just the channel is changing.

this whole deal is shameful for the m/c industry. You'd think a few of the OEM's would stand up & offer to sponsor the whole deal for the season. Especially MotoGP/AMA.

How do we get the torrent details? Dropping Speed if they don't televise m/c racing; the only reason I have it.

So this means I can drop my expensive cable and just get regular since they won't be broadcasting anything on speed/foxsports right?

Again,

SPEED CHANNEL IS GOING TO BE REBRANDED AS FOX SPORTS 1, AN ALL SPORTS CHANNEL.

Speed Channel will go away. There will be no dedicated motorsports channel. Please, please, stop asking the same redundant questions asking if you should drop Speed Channel. Keep it or drop it, it doesn't matter because it will disappear, go away, vanish, cease to exist, etc.

Any sponsors AMA RR had left are going to be leaving in 3... 2... 1... without a TV contract I doubt many sponsors will want to sign anything.

If AMA had ANY idea how to run this thing, anywhere but straight into the ground, they could at least replicate the Free Ride World Tour model and stream to the web, of course that would require dropping Chet Burks Productions who is incapable, as far as I can tell, of producing a 21st century internet live stream.

I think the manufacturers and much of the industry are still convinced cable TV is the only way to reach their fans. Seems like the same few people are always moving around from jobs at the AMA to magazine to manufacturers PR departments or advertising agencies, as if just one small group is making all the decisions.

If the motorcycle industry in the United States (not the fans) felt streaming was the way to go, we'd probably have live streaming of Supercross.

Rolls with it...

F1 went to NBC and their new all sports channel (the old VS Network0, they have retained Hobbs and Matchett. Varsha is staying with SPEED/FOX due to their coverage of the auctions around the country and his desire to remain in North Carolina (from what I understand), and I never heard what was happening with Will Buxton.

I got into a nice routine with F1 on SPEED, DVR it overnight, watch it over coffee and breakfast... a nice, easy Sunday morning. Since I'm selfish, I hope it doesn't change.

(Their coverage of Indy Car was ok, so I'll remain hopeful.)

Whoops, my bad, I forgot F1 is being picked up by NBC. But from what I read a while back, the races will be taped and aired later.

For me it was a toss up on whether I watched the races live or downloaded from the site that shall not be named. The Eurosport coverage is a bit better and without commercials. F1 Debrief was an excellent show.

Totally. completely wrong. Lining up a deal with CBS is far more likely to attract sponsors than a deal with Speed.

However, motorsports on cable TV is dead. Subscription streaming is the way forward. We just need them to settle on a platform. Motorsportsworld.com seems like they might be on the right path though I've only learned of them tonight.

Hmmm. I can't get anything on them. Searches show them as a Yamaha dealer in Canada! Obviously that can't be right. But I get your point, the streaming delivery method may well be the way things go moving forward. I'd like to think that motorsports on cable would have a better future but I'm skeptical at this point. We'll see.

It would sad if AMA Pro roadracing didn't get any TV exposure this year onward. It wuld be tough on them for sure.

If you are referring to CBS deal here: http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=50715

Thats just all PR bullshit and speculation.
Lining up and having a signed contract are 2 completely different things.

In this article:

They clearly said "hope to have negotiations wrapped up in next 30 days" that was Nov 20, they are 2 months past that and are grasping at straws.

I can just as easily submit a PR to RRW saying:
"Dmitriy from Bay Area Riders Forums is hard at work pitching the broadcasting of AFM races on KRON 4 to potential series sponsors, he is really confident enough commercial support will be raised, although no contract is currently in place between BARF & KRON 4."

What makes you think CBS wants all the 500 people that watch AMA racing.

On top of that you're wrong, people are far more likely to watch something via tv vs streaming.

Except Dimitry doesn't have a production company lined up or a history of providing the product and a built-in (although very small) tv audience. So your theoretical proposal is very different.

No but he is 'in talks' with a major Hollywood production company, and will provide the Nielsen ratings for his previous shows as soon as the contracts are signed.
