Work gives me a new iPhone every two years but if I had to pay out of pocket I’d also buy an iPhone. Too lazy to learn a new system and it syncs with my iPad which is convenient.

I had an employer offer to supply me with an iphone but their policies vs. my personal privacy on the device meant that it was pretty much completely unusable.

I used it for international data access when I was traveling but nothing else. It sat in a drawer most of the time.

Anyhow most new phones are boring with only marginal upgrades to the camera. If you take a lot of pictures maybe upgrade if your phone is older than 2 years. If not and its still working fine, don't bother.

If your phone feels slow, take it to a mall shop and get the battery replaced.

Why did you and your people get tired of iPhones?

I'm sure different reasons. I didn't like the built in obsolescence. It bricked my 4. By the time they got caught throttling the batteries on the 6 I new I would look elsewhere.
I replaced the battery at 2 years and ran it for another 2 + before going to an Android. By then I already was using it at work so had to learn that system anyway.

I don't have any other apple products anymore so it doesn't much make sense to keep the iphones around. I was an early apple user way back in the 80s and had Macs in the early and mid 90s...Played catch-up for a long time when I finally started using PCs in the later 90s. Apple/Mac stuff never did much for me but it's what I first learned on computers. Then when I got a smart phone (held out for quite a while), most people I knew at that time had iPhones. I didnt feel like trying to figure out the OS on my own with no help so I bought an iPhone. It was nice in the beginning because everyone already knew how to use it so I learned it easily enough.

Now it's kinda the opposite. Probably 75%+ of the people I would interact with on a phone are using Androids now.
My boy has an older iPad mini that my wife gave to him. That's been my only interaction with Apple equipment for the last few years. I don't miss it.

I have a 6s and it is getting old. Going to get the 12mini so it will fit in the top pocket of the AeroStich Darin :thumbup. Yes the Apple stuff is expensive but it just works. I was a PC guy for years but when the wife wanted a laptop went Apple Air. I am still helping her with cut and paste :rolleyes I like how everything links together seamlessly between the Air, MBP, Ipads, ATV and the phones. Worth the money for me.

EDIT. I still like pie.

My commuter is a 1976 BMW airhead. Do you think I'll jump on a new phone for a gee-whiz event? Srsly?

My wife will hand me a fresh phone when the money for it, and the service, works for her.

I have an iPhone X, bought when they first came out. My 6S charging port stopped working, so I picked this up instead.

I don't have any plans to switch any time soon. It's 99% used for messaging, phone calls, taking cat pictures, and order food nowadays.

I do like the face ID on the X.

In the next few years, I expect the Apple phones to make more inroads to improving the Augmented Reality experience. They already have LADAR on the iPad. I imagine when they make some leap in that realm, perhaps I'll consider upgrading.

Or, when I run out of storage from too many cat pictures, then I'll upgrade for that instead.

Or, you know, it just dies.

I usually get a new one every 2 years. And I’m very much in the Apple ecosystem (phone, watch, lots of music on iTunes, TV, and the card to pay for it all), so it’ll always be an iPhone. I have the 11 Pro now, so I’ll probably be skipping this year’s release unless there’s something very different about it.

The act of making a phone call or sending a text message really hasn’t changed dramatically in the past decade. But the camera technology has gotten so good that we’re at a point now that if I’m on vacation or something now, I can just use my phone to take pictures. There’s a big $500 point and shoot camera I got about 6 years ago that might be able to take a slightly better picture in some situations just sitting on a shelf now. Just not worth worrying about carrying it around. And I’m not that much into photography that I’m gonna drop a couple racks on a whole DSLR setup.

I too got the iPhone X when it came out. Because I spend $1000 on it, I am forcing myself to keep it for four years. Probably good timing because I'm not impressed with the upcoming ones except for the body.

BTW...I carry around two iPhones. My personal X and my work XR.Why? I like keeping my work and personal stuff separate. I've been doing it for years and I'm used to it.

I do think the XR is the perfect size for my use. So whatever iPhone has that next year, I'll probably get that one.

You know you can have different ring tones for work contacts? I couldn’t carry two iPhones. I would struggle to decide which one to pair to my watch. Because, well...I’m not gonna wear two Apple Watches. That would be absurd.

I almost went for a job with Waymo earlier this year. That would’ve meant getting issued a Google phone for work. But I sure as hell am not giving up my iPhone, so that’s the only way I would’ve done the two phone thing.

Ya, bought the wife a decent lil camera a few years (5?) back that's just collecting dust. Money would have been better spent buying her a new phone. She'd already have had a new phone by now so who cares but unless you're REALLY into photography there's no point in a stand alone anymore. That whole industry must have gotten devastated.

I also carry two phones; work and personal. For me, it's a no brainer but it is a PITA. I have to carry my duty phone most of the time as there is an expectation to answer and respond when necessary. My personal is a iPhone 8 which works fine and work is an 11. Maybe that plays into why Im not in a rush to upgrade.

For some that works but I can only get my work email on my work phone (we have to use BB UEM Client) and they restrict us with what we can do with it on a personal level. Plus, no way in hell I am giving some of the people I deal with my personal number. That stays separate.

For the watch, I keep my personal phone paired to it so when Im on my work phone, I don't have to pull out my personal :teeth

I get about 3-5 years out of my phones. On a Iphone 11 after my 6s couldn't hack it anymore.

I miss those $199 days for a phone for a 2 year contract. Phones are more than I spend on computers BUT depending on how you use they can do far more for you.

Aside from 5g, not sure with earth shattering new tech it can have. They just need to make them operate faster and cheaper, that's all.

Just last week at work was the deadline for installing an app allowing IT more access and control over our work phones. For the first time in 15 years I’m considering getting my own personal phone.

I'm still on a 6s+ myself, I took advantage of the $29 battery replacement and it still holds a good charger. But the charger port is starting to go out (need to turn the charging cable into a spaghetti mess for it to charge). I was thinking of just getting the charger port replaced but my local apple store is still closed. I'm at the point where I just want to see how long this phone will last now lol :laughing

Plus I like buying phones outright and can't justify a new iphone until this one completely bricks or breaks

I used to replace every 2 years but I'm thinking of going to 3.

I too have a work phone. It does not connect to my home network and it lives on a charger. I have it forward all calls to my personal with a distinct ring tone.

My iphone 6s+ does everything that I need in a phone, no need to go spend $$$$ every couple years to get a status symbol.

The new iphones are impressive in their capabilities, but not worth it to me.

As to the charger port, you can get a replacement from Amazon for under $10 and it's about 1/2 hour and medium difficulty to replace it, if you're handy at that type of thing. You can probably have somebody do it for $40 or less.

I'm in the same boat. Work currently pays for my phone, but if not, I would just by a iPhone. I'm not a Apple enthusiast, but I like their products. I had some many crappy low end phone before I got my iPhone 4, which was a hand me down as my family upgraded.

We are forced to buy new phones every few years now ever since they made it so you can't remove the battery.
