It doesn't make any sense. Seems there a zone or border around tragedies where inside the zone nothing is allowed but out side the zone anything goes. At what distance is it safe to joke about disaster.

Like there's never been a "too soon?" joke on the barf over a beheading or someone losing a leg, a plane crash.

Lets call the cleanup crew assholes and move on.

This crew is a subcontractor to PG&E. Does it really require explanation why PG&E can't tolerate this behavior?

No to me. Pretty crass but if you listen to cops and FD talk about tragedy they do the same. The public part, the mass grave part, matters. They are literally walking over the charred remains of lives. And as clean up, not response crew, it's bad bad optics.

Think medical students trotting out cadavers for the football games at uni. That's someone's relative, and thankfully that practice stopped.

I'm actually not sure what you all are arguing about because the grammar is garbled, but these guys getting fired is pure PR on the part of the company, and basic civility at the same time. Let's all practice keeping two thoughts in our heads at the same time.

Was it clear who was fired? If it was the workers shown in the photos than thats BS. If it was only whoever posted the pics online than fair enough. When they were hired they likely went through some sort of employer indoctrinating program and were warned of not broadcasting work related activities.
There's no shortage of people ready to ruin their careers over the need to post stupid stuff on social media.

But I bet these employees feel as much sympathy as any barfer over what happened there

Abhorred behaviour? Naw it falls short.

Fuckface Freestone Community Appreciation Day

From The Town of Paradise's FB page:
This is unacceptable and reprehensible behavior. Town leadership has contacted this subject's employer and he will no longer be working in our Town. The Paradise Police Department is looking into criminal charges. #NotInMyTown #ParadiseStrong #RidgeRecovers

I was once fired because of what I posted on the internet. I wasn’t insensitive about the total loss of someone’s house who is now homeless and will be waiting months for an insurance check. I didn’t disgrace a member of someone’s family by staging a tasteless picture with their cat who perished in the fire. Nope. None of that. All I did was standard issue car guy bench racing. I didn’t like a particular kind of car that I have to work on and talked shit about it on a forum. Enough of the owners of that kind of car got butt hurt about it, found out where I worked, and made enough calls that I had to be fired.

Years later, I completely understand why. When it happened, I was really pissed about it. Posting in my own private time, not hurting anyone, just words on a screen, yet my livelihood has to be affected, and all that. But it doesn’t matter. Even though I am only a paid employee when I am punched in, I am still a representative of that company at all times. My behavior at any time can be considered representative of the company. And if I do something that makes someone think that they don’t want to do business with my company because they don’t like who works there? It’s a pretty obvious decision for the company.

I don’t get offended nearly as easily as the snowflakes and SJWs of this day and age. But seeing that guy fuck around with someone’s dead cat did it for me. I doubt I’ll ever have a use for a crane, but should I ever do need one, and I call Biggee and find out that cocksucker still works for them? I’m hanging up and calling King or one of the other crane companies. It’s a criminal offense to harbor a fugitive. And it’s a consumer offense to harbor and asshole.

1st gen NSX owners I'm guessing? LOL, no surprise. If anyone's likely to be a doxxer, it's those nerdy bean-dicks.

Not to digress, but I'm curious about your story, Rob. You say, "standard issue car guy bench racing", but was it really like that from you? Because those standard issues car guys guys say things like, "FWORD THUCKS THEBBY 4EVR!!", whereas my vibe from your posts here is that you'd just state something more factual, but maybe with a little color, like, "the block is shit because the asshole designers made the cylinder walls too thin and it blows gaskets all the time".

My opinion on what they did is no big deal. Job site humor. Yeah, they posted the pics and got fired for being stupid enough to post the pics. Because, the company has to save face somehow.

What gets me is the holier than thou attitude and shit talking from some of you about these guys when you do or have done similar shit. But "im different because i dont post the pics" :laughing

Yeah it was. Back when it all went down, many of their comments were something along the lines of guy is probably incompetent and I’d never let someone like that work on my car. Oh the irony that 15 years later I would be selected to win the Acura Master Technician of the Year award and I know have NSX owners bring their cars from hundreds of miles away to have me work on them.

Yeah it was definitely more than just “ur car sucks” kinda stuff. Back when I worked for a Cadillac, there was a private forum just for GM technicians to share information about diagnosis and repair (I actually helped launch American Honda’s version of that a couple years ago), but of course more than half of it was kinda like Yelp in reverse where they mostly just told horror stories about customer misuse/abuse/neglect or idiots that didn’t know how to use their car. So what I posted was more along those lines. Like criticisizing one because the owner wanted to treat it like a drag car even though the car is much more of a handling car than it is for straightline. Laughing at all the automatics I saw despite it being such a “pure” sports car. Stuff like that. Owners got butt hurt like I was bullying their first born special needs child or something like that. But really it was no different than Chevy guys thinking Ford guys are dumb because they chose the wrong brand.

These guys have probably been living in Emerg. response trailers buncked with 30+ other men for the last couple months, working 16 on and 8 off for the last couple months, missing holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, eating shit on shingles for breakfast, gonna miss christmas and new years all for the restoration of the community. A little humour is needed. Some of you might not make it out of your cubicle that often.

This.

Please. It’s called gallows humor and I know it well. I’ve used it and have been around it for decades. Difference is I’ve never needed to be the shiny nickel in the pile and post it up for the world to see. We kept it private and between us. Time and place.

And this.

Joke about death to yourself and your buddies? Cool.

Joke about death to the person whose family died? Cry me river when you get a reaction you don't like.

And this.

It's because they brought widespread negative attention to their employer and the community. Maybe you're a union guy and are impossible to fire, but out here employers really don't like it when an easily replaceable peon publicly shits on the entire company. I'm currently unable to understand how you're not able to see this aspect. Can you explain? Are you super special and think you have a right to employment no matter your behavior?

And this.

I see, its okay as long as you dont get caught or bring negative attention to your employer or community.

showing your colors now.

Yeah. That's kinda his life works.

The talk of criminal charges is nonesense. I don't really think one should lose a job over it, but I understand why it would happen.

Here's another perspective:
This guy is posting pictures while standing on private property. He is there to perform a cleanup operation on homes that the owners have not yet been allowed to visit.
It's safe to speculate that Freestone has scavenged some souvenirs, that's looting.
Stupid behavior has consequences. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks the town of Paradise says get him out so guess what: Out he Goes and good riddance.

Be that as it may. I think it's still more than fucked up that numerous people would call and get you fired IRL over interwebs shenanigans. That's chickenshit.

I’m not holier than thou about it. I did similar shit, I got canned, and I know exactly why. If I were my boss I’d have fired me too. Now that I am a boss, if someone in my crew did that, I wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of them. Simple how things work at a job. Do something stupid, get fired.

Yes, it’s job site humor. It happens everywhere. I’m sure that there were situations where soldiers that have killed insurgents or whatever in Afghanistan and they took severed heads, put them on the ends of rifles, and had a puppet show or some sick shit. And sadly, you probably could find a picture of that if you look hard enough. But that’s certainly not a good look for the US, so if any of those soldiers could be identified and there was backlash, you bet those soldiers had to pay a price for the “humor” they decided to publicly share.

Of course. Perhaps if I had been in another line of work, all of my blathering on would have just been white noise to those guys. But I was disparaging my company’s own product and customers. So while it was very snowflakey of them, I understand why they dropped a hammer on me.

Last laugh...since then I am sure I have worked on some of the very same cars that owners of them said would never let someone like me work on their car. Unbeknownst to them of course. I think enough time has passed that it’s water under the bridge, but I ain’t looking to start that shit up again with that little community.
