I think it would be a really positive thing if we could send some appreciation for this.... while the signs are CalTrans, it looks like maybe the CHP actually deals with the messages?

Changeable Message Signs
Activation of electronic changeable message signs operated by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) give real-time information to motorists. As part of the AMBER ALERT system, these signs can transmit information about a confirmed child abduction case. The signs will only be activated for an incident which meets the AMBER ALERT criteria. When local law enforcement agencies want message sign activation, the CHP will be the point of contact.

Anybody know how this is done? Who can we email our appreciation to?

I just came across the same message on the CHP website and then found this link http://www.dot.ca.gov/compliment.htm To write to caltrans. Ill be including a copy of the link to this thread.

Here is what I sent:Thank you thank you thank you for putting up the message 'share the road, look twice for motorcyclists' all over the bay area this morning 2-11-10. I have been riding daily for 5 years and without fail, everyday someone doesn't see me and I practice emergency maneuvers and keep a zen state of mind to keep calm. Please put up these messages as often as possible. I know that even if one person looks over their shoulder before making a lane change, a life can be saved. I included a link to a website forum for bay area riders for you to view. There are over 20,000 members on this website and over 20 have seen the signs this morning and were so happy, they shared their joy on this forum. Please do not underestimate the impact that this message sends not only to car drivers but also riders. On behalf of 20,000 riders in the bay area Thank you and keep up the signs!!!

I just saw that after riding through the toll plaza onto the San Mateo Bridge (92 West). I was so shocked and happy to see it.
I'm glad to know that these signs are up all over the Bay Area right now.

Riddle me this.
I saw a sign this morning saying the same thing out in Yolo County (Solano?) near Dixon.

I know Budman suggested the idea during the presentation he gave to the Office of Transportation and Safety (or whatever their name is), so partial credit may be attributed to him and the 1Rider program :thumbup

Veteran... yeah right!
I was about to post this! I was driving to the SF today and saw the sign at the end of the bay bridge on HW80. I wasn't riding at that time; but I finally feel the CHP and CalTrans understand and begin to address the day-to-day dangerous situation of all riders face in Bay Area. Thank you CalTrans!!!! :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

Budman is too humble to say, but I am most certainly not in this regard. Budman, silversvs, and their involvement with the OTS is the catalyst for this, and I for one am proud of what BARF has been able to do so far for the motorcycle community. Big hand for Budman and silversvs :applause
