Be careful how you option that new car

My first truck was a Toyota in '87, and I think it was one of the last remaining cars that had those little wing windows in the corner.

I had an '87 VW GLI WLF with power windows and am '87 BMW 325 that had power windows. Even by the late 80's handcrank windows were on their way out, lol.

Wow, so two of you guys mention this.

I "assumed" it would be harder than my joke implied as usually you need to get inside the car to pop the hood to access the lights from the inside.

if they employed more thieves in the design review process, maybe.

Has anyone seen the new Sonatas with the headlight accent that bleeds into the hood? Looks dope but i imagine it aint cheap if it fails.

I won't even own those luxy kind with the $2000 headlight but I have to say that the most annoying fuckin' thing about modern cars is the HVAC systems.

For the life of me, I can't understand why I can't just have an outside air vent function (though it's probably because of cabin filter or something). Both of my Toyotas, my old Mazda, always had the phenom of getting way too hot and only by working the AC can I cool it down. In old style cars, the outside vent worked great. It blew the fresh outside air right on my goddam face. On my current car, what is supposed to be vented fresh air is usually hot and I have to keep hitting the outside-inside button hoping to get fresh air. Finally, I just give up and turn everything off and open the window. It's the broken promise of fresh air that fries my ass.

Haven't had that issue with any of my cars / trucks. Actually if anything I had the opposite issue - crappy AC that almost never worked so I shelled out for the "luxury" trim in later cars and haven't looked back. Cars are kind of an expensive vice of mine...

I love people in this thread that will only own pre 1975-somethings because all these newfangled gadgets are just something else to break. Then they'll wonder why the engine 'only' made 80k before it needed the valves and rings done, setting points twice ayear and wondering why it runs rough since they just balanced the carbs. Maybe I don't need quite so high tech but give me all the gadgets any day.

I bought my first brand new car in 1991 and every one has had power windows except one. FYI it was a 91 or 92 Isuzu pickup that had the wing mirrors. Great for smoking in the rain! I had exactly one window motor fail in all that time. Cars these days are unbelievably reliable.

I owned a 2002 or 2001 without power windows (nor automatic transmission) (but with A/C. Important.)

This is interesting, however : it certainly smells like a planned effort from the manufacturers to produce more, and more expensive parts:

Monica Rok of Mississauga has a 2017 Mercedes E400. She leases the car and must return it next month.

When an inspection was done she was told both headlights had small cracks and would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,500 each.

“They had quoted me over $3,500 per headlight to replace them because they are considered to be all in one units," Rok said.

(of course I don't exactly agree, that it would be their issue if she cracked them from driving :laughing..." “It will cost me over $7,000 dollars for the luxury to replace something that is their issue," Rok said.)

LOL at her quote:

“As cars get fancier repairs need to be affordable for the general public," said Bouwmeester.

Should be something more like : As customers purchase more luxurious cars, they need to understand they must also be able to afford repairs on luxury cars.

Don't want to pay for Mercedes repairs? Buy something else. Don't want to be on the hook for repairs when returning a leased vehicle? Buy the damage waiver.

My DD is a 1990 Toyota Pickup. Manual windows, locks and steering, no AC, 5 speed with a 22RE and a driver’s vent window. 183k miles and still runs like a top.

What crazy talk are you talking?

The E30 BMW's from the 80's are all still just tanking along happily pissing oil everywhere and running for 1 billion miles as long as you open the hood and drop your balls to teabag the engine every 100,000 miles while the newer model BMWS eject the engine from the chassy, roll over on their roof, and play dead within 6 months of the Manufacturers warranty expiring, if not sooner.

I have a guy who's all Old Tyme about things, but he won't own a daily driver that doesn't have EFI.

That was a different breed of BMWs.

If I was on craigslist and I saw an E30 and a modern BMW posted for the same exact price, I'm taking the E30.

They were the last great German cars. They have only gotten progressively more awful since then.
