Be careful how you option that new car

I am an old fucker. I still grumble when I see Power Windows in a car. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a car with manual windows, but I still grumble about, "more needless shit to break."

I have never owned a personal car that had electric windows (unlike my wife).

Or power steering.

Or ABS.

I bought a 1998 Toyota T100 that has manual windows. I am afraid my son is going to beat me up to commandeer it. He hates electric ANYTHING in cars.

Pretty normal for almost every new car these days. The LED headlights are non-serviceable and a throwaway part.

Do you only drive SMOG exempt vehicles or something? I mean, it is literally almost impossible to find a remotely modern vehicle (2006 or newer) that doesn't have some of those things as standard.

LOL, I just bought an old salvage 1999 Ford F150 with crank roll windows and it makes me happy.

Reasons why I have zero interest in buying the vast majority of 'new' cars.

The newest car I've ever owned was an '06 model.

Fear me!
Changing the bulb on new-ish cars with fancy headlights is such a PITA. I did it once for our 2004 Mazda 6 years ago and had to remove the entire front bumper. When I had my '97 Accord it was easy peasy.
My 2014 Mazda 3 has directional xenon headlights, so a bulb replacement is still possible for about $100 at the shop. A few years ago a nice piece of road debris smashed the front corner, including the headlight. The repair bill listed the headlight at ~$2K.

I've only owned three personal cars.

1976 Rabbit (new) 1975 280z (Dad was moving to Venezuela so I gave the Rabbit to my brother and bought the Z) then my 1994 Miata.

I get a yearly letter from the Bay Area Air Quality District asking me to sell it to them for $1000 so they can crush it.

Wife has a 2019 CX5 which, thankfully, a headlight assembly OEM new is $400, used is half that.

Bulb for my Miata?

IDK, five bucks?

It's never burned out a bulb though.

Not a one.

Do you send them back a hand drawn picture of a middle finger?

Soon thieves will move on from catalytic converters to headlights! :laughing

it's been a theme for porsche owners for 20 years now.

https://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/02/thieves-stealing-porsche-headlamps-for-marijuana-grow-lights/

it started with the 911 and boxster that had headlight units that pulled out from the front. according to porsche the front decklid had to be opened. according to thieves, it did not. it was bad enough that some owners reverted to the halogen units and STILL had those stolen. kinda like miata hardtops

I finally accepted it even though I agree with you in principle. When I was little, only Cadillacs had power windows and maybe some luxe models of Chevys and Lincolns I guess. They weren't that reliable. I had the nightmare of feeling like I might get stuck not being able to open the window in an emergency.

At least now, they generally work pretty well....

My first truck was a Toyota in '87, and I think it was one of the last remaining cars that had those little wing windows in the corner.

They already have. I have a buddy who has a Cayenne, the headlights have been stolen 3 times now.

If the OEM part is $2k, someone is definitely making knockoffs for far less.

Not necessarily. I need to replace a headlight on my Tesla because the DRL isn't working properly. New part is $1600 or something. Not going to bother.

And of course they make it so you have to remove the bumper to do the job.

I don't really understand what the beef is with electric window regulators.

Never had an issue with them, it's proven technology. I have a '95 Ranger with original electronic window regulators and no problems after 200k miles. Fuck roll up windows, that shit is annoying and pointless.

Do you "never buy anything but roll-up window cars" people not buy cars with fuel injection either? Pretty hypocritical if you do.

Those were good for when I used to smoke :laughing

The good ol' days of wing windows, cigar lighters, ashtrays, and lack of safety elements.

I think those went past 87 but I can't think of the make/model to prove it.

Wow, so two of you guys mention this.

I "assumed" it would be harder than my joke implied as usually you need to get inside the car to pop the hood to access the lights from the inside.
