if one reserves a bronco now and pays the $100, then the deposit whenever that happens are dealers still able to tack on their "because we can" fee when it arrives?

Yes they can. The hundred bucks is your placeholder in line and deposit to build to order. But it doesn’t guarantee what your final price will be.

They’re of course going to make as many as they have demand for. Nothing limited other that the “first edition” model. So I imagine when you drop the hundie and give them your zip code to reserve a Bronco it will allocate to your nearest dealer (most likely Frontier for you). So maybe give that nearest dealer a call and see what their policy is going to be regarding a markup on the Bronco. If they’ll do a sticker deal, then maybe book the reservation. When it comes time for delivery, if the dealer pulls a bait and switch and all of a sudden wants a markup, tell them to stick it up their ass and back out. Not sure how Ford is handling the reservations legal wise. You may have to forfeit it at that point. But just know that in CA, it is illegal to take a non refundable “deposit” to hold a vehicle. If Ford is legally calling it “order processing fee” or some shit, then you’ll probably be out $100.

A win is if your nearest dealer has a company “no markup” policy. I believe Hendrick stores do this.

thanks rob!
i doubt i'm buying now (leery of first model year in general despite this borrowing from existing models) and will likely wait till the first round of lease returns shows up on used lots but for future reference ya know?

the idea of ordering through costco is worth exploring if i did go new. so far the most appealing configuration is a 4 door base model, manual transmission with the sasquatch upgrade to get lockers... in case there are any soccer fields i have difficulty getting the kids to!

If I get one, I plan on emailing a multitude of dealers in the state to get an OTD price and then going with whomever has the best price on what I want.

You might want to hunt down some forum somewhere and see if you can get in on a group buy. I've seen those happen where a forum drums up 10 or 20 vehicle for a single vehicle. Folks will travel out of state for those.

I've never done it, however.

Either a little dude or a rig made for giants. Homie can barely see over the hood.

He's probably on the shorter side, but still, seeing him in there makes me think that whole line from the top of the hood on back needs to drop like 6". Think we might be seeing a bit of form>function.

And here I though it was going to be small-ish

I’m waiting for the OJ White trim package.

That’s hot though. I don’t see myself getting rid of my Tacoma anytime soon but this new Bronco would be in the running when that time comes.

You are not the only one who wants the white one.

we bought a new vehicle in february and did that - no one was budging on price. we ended up contacting dealers all over the country. still no price reduction. we would have compromised on the specs for the right price, but since that wasn’t an option, we decided to get exactly what we wanted (a factory order was out of the question as they were quoting 8-12 months for delivery). after a full sweep of dealer inventory, there ended up only being two configured the way we really wanted (one in MA and one in CO). we went for the one in CO - flew out to pick it up and had a super fun road trip home. i highly recommend an out of state purchase just for the adventure factor.

I don't see what a big V8 is going to do for anyone on the trails. All a 392 is going to do in a Wrangler weigh down the front.

Best off road car I ever had was a '86 4Runner with the 22RE. That thing couldn't even make it over Snoqualmee Pass without dropping down into 3rd in the slow lane but it would go anywhere I asked it to in any weather.

To be fair...the 22RE was never known for packing a lot of power. But then again, neither has anything else Toyota has put in their trucks up to today. :laughing

Wow, looks it's jam-packed with technology.

Isn't the point of the Wrangler that it's very basic? I rented one in Hawaii and hated it, reminded me of driving around a Lada Niva 4x4, but with a terrible autotragic transmission.

The Bronco seems to be way more sophisticated.

The modern Wrangler isn't really basic even though Jeep people may want you to think that.

did you order something specific through costco, or do they broker between a local dealer that has something off the lot?

Yes and no. When I setup my order through Costco, I checked off the blocks of what I was looking for. I had expected that it wouldn't necessarily be something that the local Costco-affiliated dealer (turns out that was Livermore Ford) would have on their lot, but basically they're required to "go find it" as Costco not so officially explains on the website. The dealer ended up finding exactly what I wanted, minus the bed power package, in Fresno and negotiated a dealer trade. I had my truck the next morning. Turns out the bed power package is one of those unobtainium things in the trim level I bought anyway. They basically held it out for Lariat buyers, of which I was not.

One of the cars I learned to drive on was a '94 Bronco Eddie Bauer edition. My uncle went from a Wrangler to the Bronco and got a license plate bracket that said :

"I had a Jeep...

...Now I'm comfortable."

:rofl

I think, in general, 4 doors outsell 2 doors by a large margin, although that might not hold true for the Wrangler.

For Wrangler/ Rubicons, it's like 90/10 on the used market. I can only assume that's representative of the new market sales. 2 doors are not too popular.

When cross-shopping the Ranger, I looked at Wranglers and had to drive all the way down to Gilroy to find a dealer that even had a 2-door version that wasn't maxed out with all the Rubicon features and options. It was a very disappointing test drive. They look the part, but value-wise it's just pitiful. $42,000 for a 2-door Wrangler Sport that didn't even have power windows and locks? Yeah, hard pass. Rode like absolute shit too.

OK I'm pretty sure I like the 2 door more than the 4 door, after looking at more angles.
