2021 Ford Bronco - shots fired

My buddy sent this to me last night. Thought it was a really great comparision between the Bronco, Wrangler, and 4Runner. I will not consider getting rid of my 4R for the Bronco but I do like it a lot. I think bc it reminds me of the FJ.

I like that they have a 2-door and 4-door model available. The modular top looks pretty nice, too.

Very smart of them to do a four door variant. Or is the two door a variant of the four door? Anyways, I get that the two door is the true “retro” here and is absolutely the one I’d buy. But there’s a reason that the majority of non work truck pickup trucks are crew cabs these days.

Yota needs to update the 4R. And FFS, do not put that pile of shit 3.5 in it. Had one in a 17 Taco and got rid of it after a few months, thing would annoy me every time I drove it with constant gear hunting and not being able to maintain 6th on the freeway due to a headwind.

I think, in general, 4 doors outsell 2 doors by a large margin, although that might not hold true for the Wrangler. Back in the 80's most of these SUV's started as 2 doors, added the 4 door model, and now you can't find 2 door anything.

I'm thinking the we are "lucky" to get the 2 door, even if that was the original configuration in the 60's/70's. :thumbup

I don't see what a big V8 is going to do for anyone on the trails. All a 392 is going to do in a Wrangler weigh down the front.

Best off road car I ever had was a '86 4Runner with the 22RE. That thing couldn't even make it over Snoqualmee Pass without dropping down into 3rd in the slow lane but it would go anywhere I asked it to in any weather.

Wow, looks it's jam-packed with technology.

Isn't the point of the Wrangler that it's very basic? I rented one in Hawaii and hated it, reminded me of driving around a Lada Niva 4x4, but with a terrible autotragic transmission.

The Bronco seems to be way more sophisticated.

And you can still hose it out at the car wash. Really looks like a home run here for Ford.

if one reserves a bronco now and pays the $100, then the deposit whenever that happens are dealers still able to tack on their "because we can" fee when it arrives?

i don't understand this process obviously and the more i read about the options here, the more i see it as a viable replacement for my current SUV that is sorely lacking in MPG, transmission options, and lockers (i don't need lockers, shut up, i know that. I WANT THEM)

Rangers were the same way at first. Wait a few months for the hype to die down and you pay under MSRP...or just buy it through Costco like I did and don't pay the markup to begin with.

did you order something specific through costco, or do they broker between a local dealer that has something off the lot?

When we got our Cadillac via Costco, we were able to order the car to our specs. This was in, I dunno, late November when we did that (several years ago). The only push back we go was that the dealer mentioned the factory may not be able to build it due to scheduling or something. But in the end it went through.

I only mention that detail because when I ordered a Ford Fusion, or my Jeep GC, they simply took my order and that was that (the Fusion was ordered on a post-it note). So, that may be a GM thing.

Dunno how it might be different with a new launch high demand thing like the Bronco. But when I ordered my Jeep, it was a new launch of the platform, enough that folks were foregoing 2013s for the 2014s (when I went shopping my dealer flat out told me I should just come back later when the 2014s come out rather than get a 2013).

So, again, point being, the Jeep let me order a new car of a new launch with nary a peep. And I got employee pricing on it to boot.

But the Bronco is brand new, so, all I can think of is simply you'll may just be in line behind a large surge to get vehicles shipped to dealer lots, but dealer vehicles are not different from private vehicles. They have a work order, options list, are assembled by the same folks. Just need to get in line.

Whether Costco will be able to sell them out the gate is a different question.

Can someone explain what the removable middle door window section thingy appears to be? It's not in every pic. Very confusing.

Those are optional doors. The cutouts allow a better view of obstacles for low speed crawling. Jeeps used to have little windows down low in the door on some of the soft tops and hard tops decades ago.

the Trim Level link yodaisgod posted might answer it. there are variations in which roof sections are removable for 4vs 2 door, and option level... or something like that. i kinda skimmed over it because i don't like the sun and removable roof sections are just future water leaks IMO

One of the cars I learned to drive on was a '94 Bronco Eddie Bauer edition. My uncle went from a Wrangler to the Bronco and got a license plate bracket that said :

"I had a Jeep...

...Now I'm comfortable."
