THE RIDE IS STILL ON

We are cancelling this as an Official BARF Rally but the ride is still on.

The Hoho rally is a celebration of a member who is gone too soon. I don’t want it to (potentially) be the cause of losing another member of our community or have BARF be the cause of an outbreak in Weaverville.

Having BARF be on the line for assembling a group of people whose adherence to social distancing behaviors cannot be controlled is not a risk I want to take as the owner.

Our reputation and potential liability is just to important to ignore.

So Officially we are calling off the Hoho rally this year.

Cootz and I had a talk about this and she supports my decision and

THE RIDE IS STILL ON.

As much as I would really, really love to ride the awesome roads around Weaverville and see so many great friends, the current resurgence of COVID-19 cases has me concerned about the safety of our members and impacting the local community.

Given the chance of someone being infected without knowing it is a great concern for an area where masks are generally not in use.

I just feel we cannot control our members attending on wearing a mask when going into stores etc.. and I sure don't want to play mask Sheriff or give some grief for not properly social distancing.

I love you all way too much.

By making this not an official BARF Rally you are free to do you, but I do hope you are safe with your fellow riders and the community

I am truly sorry folks.

This does mean that there will not be an organized dinner and the normal check in stuff, which has been hard to get folks to do anyway.

Herding cats is not easy. :laughing

The private forum is up so if you want in feel free to post here or PM me.
I have added the folks that I believe are going for sure already.

You can complain about my decision there. :laughing

Anyone that wants to complain can kick rocks.

I hope that folks will let me know that they are heading to Weaverville so I can know to look out for them. This isn't a BARF ride officially but I still want to know folks are okay at the end of the day.

I do hope folks will be mindful of the 'Rona, wear masks and keep their hands clean.

That's all folks.

hey all, I won't make it this year solely due to the fact I am "living" in Mammoth Lakes for the summer and it would be 24 hours travel time just to get there and back.

Hope everyone going is safe and has fun!

Dennis,

In the interest of potentially keeping events going, how would feel about requiring a clean recent (ie: within the last 14 days) COVID-19 negative test result in order to attend rallies? There's multiple places around where I work that are offering the test for free to anyone regardless if they have symptoms or not. Would that put you more at ease about running future events? Basically, this is what Hawaii is doing effective August 1st in order to avoid a 14-day mandatory quarantine. Seems to me it's a simple thing to do to provide the BARF powers that be some peace of mind.

If testing is required, then some kind of documentation would be required with the resultant record keeping and liability if someone does get sick. It's a slippery slope. If Barf doesn't sponsor events then Barf doesn't have to require testing. Let's keep it simple. My $.02.

Let me chew on it.

Not sure.. I know it would be a hassle for me, but most folks are not working 7 days a week either.

**EDIT** Good point Jeff

We're almost neighbors, as I'm about 60 miles north of you.

In Eureka they just stopped appointment testing. I work everyday and have been out 'In it' since day 1. I don't think making testing, with a result and documentation will change anything. If you are in the public sector, by the time you get your test result and paper, you could have already been infected, even if you just tested days earlier with a clean result.

While I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that, I only suggested it since a U.S. state is using it as their measuring stick on who is and isn't allowed to travel into its borders so it stands to reason that there is likely a great deal of value to testing in the first place.

Last years Hoho Rally was my first BARF rally. I had a great time. I was really planning on going again this year, as well as attending some of the other rallies that have been cancelled. I'll continue to ride by myself until it's safe for us to all meet again.
