I just cancelled with the hotel. I said I would post the rooms available on the forum and was iformed that they had folks in house that can use the rooms.
If anyone is thinking of cancelling do it now so that foks stayin in house don't have to make unneccesaay arrangements.

I’m glad you brought this up. I was in Weaverville and stayed there the other night. There are several rooms currently occupied with folks seemingly living there. I talked to a few of them and they are on hard times. I would hate to displace them so that I could come up for a day or two.

Lots of people in and around Weaverville were wearing masks, and lots of them are not. At the place where we get ice cream all the people working there were wearing masks and about 75% of the customers were wearing masks.

In Red Bluff we ate inside a restaurant where nobody was wearing masks at all. It’s surreal out there right now.

FYI... I have a note that 3 rooms at the 49er are opening up and I wanted to give first shot to anyone that needs one before they are cancelled.

Let me know.

Dennis,

In the interest of potentially keeping events going, how would feel about requiring a clean recent (ie: within the last 14 days) COVID-19 negative test result in order to attend rallies? There's multiple places around where I work that are offering the test for free to anyone regardless if they have symptoms or not. Would that put you more at ease about running future events? Basically, this is what Hawaii is doing effective August 1st in order to avoid a 14-day mandatory quarantine. Seems to me it's a simple thing to do to provide the BARF powers that be some peace of mind.

.

We wouldn't be displacing them if they've got reservations and are living there, the h/motel wouldn't void their reservations for us.

We'd be coming up and giving the whole town a much-needed injection of $$$$ from our stay.

If every one of us is paying (for example) $90/night for two nights plus another $20 per meal (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast), that's approx $260 per person for the weekend. Multiply that times ten attendees, and it's $2,600, etc. That gets spread around the town and if we don't go up there, it's money they don't get.

Are you sure about that? The folks living there are transient. If we had a reservation prior to them moving in, the 49r would honor our reservation.
I was up there 5 weeks ago. I rarely saw a mask. Things may have changed though. We're also giving the town an injection of Covid 19. Right now positive results are about 7% of those tested. If 12 people go, one of them will be positive for the Rona. Trinity County has had 2 confirmed cases.

I just talked to Bobert... he did say he had long termers that were going to be kicked out for us. So he is going to pass the rooms to them first and barfers second.

I get that.

Wow. It just reminds me of how interconnected our actions are.

They really are. We are living in unusual times, I prefer to err in the direction of compassion and consideration.
I'll probably have a private memorial to HoHo, maybe take a motorcycle ride, maybe not, but I for sure will eat ice-cream and think about him :love

Yeah, I get that. At the end of the day, it's more of a managed risk thing for me. I've had to work every single workday since this shit all began and out of our 140 employees, we've only had three test positive and none of them were exposed due to work per the tracing the health officials completed and no one else was infected due to the strict guidelines we have in place for an employee that tests positive or even those that have potentially been exposed. In my mind, it's 100% possible to live your life smartly right now, within the appropriate guidelines required, and still be out of your home. At no point did I suggest a bunch of BARF'ers gaggle together and spit on each other in close proximity. However, I don't find the idea of riding to a place and hanging out with some distance between people while wearing masks to be all that unfavorable or impossible to do safely either, though.

YMMV
