We usually buy an 18 pack and it lasts for like 4 months. How much do people wipe?! There must be a lot of chafed anuses out there!

Industries will shutter while others will thrive. Therapy and services that can be provided online will take off on d the HIPPA and other issues are figured out.

Schooling for elementary kids online is kind of a pipe dream. Kids need socialization and curriculum currently isn’t developed around online delivery. Also special education is an entire different setup. Testing kids for learning disabilities is not valid or standardized for online delivery. Providing IEP support for kids with special education goals has not been developed for online. This will all change but will take time and lot of $$$ for research for effectiveness.

Gyms will open back up. Home gym equipment will take off.

Food delivery will thrive. Stores will and companies might keep their new shorter hours for employee cost savings.

Movie theaters I think are screwed. Many will be nervous to head back into a theater.

Hard to predict. People tend to live and forget over time.

If a vaccine comes out or much faster and available tests, this may turn into a flu season flu shot thing.

From what I've read, the post-Covid 19 world will have substantially higher health care premiums for U.S. residents. Estimates from an article in the New York Times (paywall) say 20% - 40% increases next year.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/28/health/coronavirus-insurance-premium-increases.html
It would not surprise me at all. Any insurance industry Always responds to make up for lost profits by increasing rates after an event where they have to pay out, it doesn't matter if the odds go back to normal following the event, they are determined to make up for lost profits.

Time to nationalize healthcare.

What the shit is this...
That, plus a change of direction at the Federal level, might be what we need to usher in universal healthcare.

So...maybe there's a silver lining?

So what if you can't afford it. At least its not that communist socialized free healthcare
Then you're supposed to die when you get sick and make room for other good little workers.

You know, kind of like in the late 1800's when in the mining towns 100% owned by the mining company where when the father died of black lung their children had to take their place for the family to eat and stay in their home.

Just been on call to plan a large upcoming battery technology project. The consensus is that we need to source everything as close as possible. For us that means everything needs to be sourced within an 8hr drive!!

So I see a potential boom in labs, materials testing etc. This is the opposite from just 4 weeks ago where we would typically see projects collaborating with suppliers and vendors in China, Korea, India and the EU. That approach seems to be over for at least the next 12 months.

Fortunately we are in the Bay Area so we have everything we need pretty much on our doorsteps.

This is going to be a challenge for some tech entrepreneurs who de-camped to Montana, Puerto Rico, or a large yacht in the ocean (https://www.businessinsider.com/bil...chartered-superyachts-amid-coronavirus-2020-3) etc.

If a battery supplier tells you "this will never burn, fire suppression is not required," don't believe them :laughing

Had a conversation about "Essential vs. Non-essential" and what I'm taking away from this is exactly this.

My life before was always looking at the time, rushing... stressed. Constantly looking at my calendar full of meetings and appointments and family obligations. Teaching martial arts on Monday... but also looking at my phone for work related stuff and missing phone calls and more rushing and sitting in traffic...

And boom. It all stopped.

I have had one of the most successful and productive months in my career, all working from home. My wife and my step son are doing art and home schooling. I've mastered the portable, DIY, boxing/martial arts workout I take to a secluded area of a local park away from everyone. I get to watch TV for hours with the wife at night, and we aren't stressed about having to wake up at the crack of dawn to be rushed to our business affairs.

We've been cooking at home - beautiful meals - and our bank account has barely moved, since we both aren't buying gas for business related travel. My wife told me this morning she's saving a ton of money not having to get her hair and nails done - this was part of dressing up for her business. No need right now.

My clients are happy with video conferencing, and they appreciate it. When we meet, we are quick and pragmatic and right to business. It feels oddly organic and personable.

My wife and I have been able to break down the essential aspects of our life - what really is needed to live, thrive and be happy. I've discovered, it doesn't require me to sit in 2 hours of traffic, stressed, drinking huge amounts of caffeine because I'm so exhausted from the rat race. It didn't require us to be always looking at the clock, and syncing calendars of who is going to pick up the boy from school that day and conflicting meetings and appointments...

We've narrowed down to what is important and essential, and scrubbed away what wasn't. We didn't need to live that rat race - to live.

I hope others have experienced this.

I do miss my parents (who I call nearly everyday) and I miss my karate students and martial arts training partners. This is part of the whole thing that has made me kinda sad.

What the shit is this...
We had an absolutely lovely dinner party last night with some very good friends, people who we love dearly but are scattered across three states, and getting everybody together in person is nearly impossible. It was incredibly refreshing, and although the first hour was mostly spent figuring out how to use Zoom on our various devices, we stayed online until almost 11pm laughing and telling stories like we were all in the same room. Definitely want to continue doing that. :)
