I dunno if they're cheap, but they're pretty well off. I did it at a studio for 2 years in Pacifica and the clientele was as you'd expect it to be. Its fairly expensive considering you're pretty much doing calisthenics in a heated room for about 90 minutes. And I'm willing to bet most folks don't have loyalty to their local studios since most of the teachers are contracted out and teach at multiple places.

Spandex is what's used for cycling tights.

Yoga pants aren't all spandex, if they even use it, usually less than 50% if used. Usually a blend.
