Rider 255, row 26 (anyone know how many rows?) I'm signed up for Sunday - my first time racing the VCGP. Just started racing D36 this season. Longest race thus far has been 100 minutes riding the Picacho Creek Hare Scramble. Not going to lie, VCGP is intimidating! I am just aiming to finish the race.

Pretty sure I won't need to fuel up midway as I get approx. 100 miles per tank (but of course I will bring gas). Debating a second camelbak...I sucked down 90oz in that 100 min at Picacho and as soon as I got off the bike I had to pee ASAP then peed again like 4x within the next 40 minutes...talk about breaking the seal. Can't afford to do that in this race so I'm thinking hydrate really well this week and then ration my 100oz over the entire 3hr race- just to keep my mouth wet/closed around the mouth piece. Does that sound unreasonable?

Does this work like other races - eg. they start waving in everyone at a certain time no matter how many laps you've been able to get in?

Any tips for a newbie other than ride your own ride, pace yourself, don't die.

thanks!

wish I was going to be joining y'all - can't make it happen, but will shoot for next year when I can ride the senior senior class and still get smoked by guys much older than me. trip reports upon returning home please

That's literally exactly how i felt before I did that 100 mile race in Feb. I wasn't even sure if I could do it. I had this vision of myself just coasting to a stop and falling over, completely unable to continue. lol

But it turned out ok. Just remember not to let the adrenaline and excitement of the start take over. If you go 100% out of the gate you will never make it. Find your comfortable pace and just keep swimming.

Mike, bummer you couldn’t make it. Let’s try to make a stonybarf ride in the fall or some weekend rides.

The course was a lot of fun this year. Unfortunately it didn’t rain Saturday night so it was pretty dusty. Then it started to snow after the race was over.

I got 18th in my class and 114 overall. Not bad considering I believe there was 400 plus riders. And the important piece and my goal for this year, I did better and was faster than last year. I did the two hard splits on all three laps. Lots of bottlenecks on the up hill hard split and Sutro canyon. Saw lots of people taking pictures and I am sure there will be plenty of YouTube videos.

Looks like next year will be my 5th in a row, can’t wait!

How was your 1st VCGP experience? There was a lot of fast ladies out there today!

The top 5 girls were faster than most of the guys. The first place girl was 15th overall :wow

I came in 9th out of 27 for women (6 were DNF) which means I get a trophy, woohoo, I'll take it! Sunday had 355 riders, 118 were DNF's.

My body has never been so sore. My second lap was faster than my first by 25 minutes. The downhill cluster and canyon cluster weren't there the second time around and I flowed much better. My trips to Baja these past two years came in handy as the course was very Baja-esque. I had a great time and plan on racing again next year. Aiming for 7th place next year :laughing

Congrats on the excellent results and the trophy!

Did you pit between laps? If so, did you have a pit crew set up?

I came in after my second lap to grab a gallon of gas and some sport chews. I wasn’t sure I could make the 75 miles on one tank and didn’t want to DNF. Probably added 5 minutes to my 3rd lap otherwise it would have been my fastest.

My shoulders/back are still sore! Heading to the gym for some cardio to get ready for this weekend’s enduro.

No I didn't pit. I only did two laps though. I wasn't planning on pitting regardless. I knew I'd have enough gas and was carefully rationing my water. I'm slow enough that I can't afford to waste time pitting :laughing

The 2019 VCGP is this weekend. Anyone planning on riding Saturday or Sunday? I’ll be riding Sunday in the 40+ class number 221.

I'm 138 on Sunday. Wave when you pass by me! I'll be the slow guy on the 200xcw! There are a bunch of riding on Sunday. Anytwowilldo, Rebekahlynn, saltwater, and others. Some on Saturday too. Should be a fun weekend!

We are setting up our pit Saturday afternoon to try and get a decent spot for Sunday. We should have a couple of KLIM flags flying. Barfers are welcome to stop by for a beverage and bench racing!
