Hmm

So If a 49 yo slow, "c" rider that never raced anything were to sign up, would it be a good experience?

Treating it more like a trail ride..with 300 close friends...

or would I just get in everyone's way...:)

Cheers

In regard to getting in the way, as long as you hold your line and don't try to move over for people, that's really all that matters. Ride your race and have a good time. :ride

I forgot to mention, you can pit after each lap if you like. This gives you time to get gas and water. Don't think of it as a race but more of a guided trail ride with 300 of your closest friends.
They were a lot of great moments but when the super senior passed me on his 1970's husky like I was standing still will be hard to forget.

Was just checking out the entry form and had some questions...

What do they want for proof of racing class? Will a copy of a D36 card work?

Sounds like they assign you numbers and you don't get to use your own numbers?

Inside the envelope that you mail your entry form in, you're supposed to fold up two self-addressed stamped envelopes that they'll use to mail you stuff back?

Do they mail you the transponder? Is it a sticker like with the D36 stuff?

How does the pit stuff work? They give you a general area and you set something up the morning of the race and leave your stuff there?

Sounds like the regular signup process is all done by mail, so you don't need to check in or do anything when you show up to race?

I didn't do the registration process so I don't have all of the details but I will answer what I can based on last year. I provided no proof of racing class. I'm thinking that is a Saturday thing when the "professionals"race. I think a D36 card would work.

You still have to check in even though you register by mail. At check in they give you a sticker transponder.

You are assigned a number based on your starting row.

You can set up your pit anywhere there is space in the designated put area. We set up Saturday afternoon and left it overnight. If you don't have a pit crew we can make space for you. We don't have any Beta babes but there will be a couple of fat dudes to gas up your bike and beers at the end of it all.

Ok, let's talk about it and decide soon.

I'm assuming we'd be running Sunday over 40 novice, more riding and eating dust than "racing',

Anyone know if it "sells out" quickly?

Oh and thanks to rtrider for the pit offer, with or without Beta Babes!

Cheers

This event looks like a lot of fun! It seems to be a 3 hours race for Sunday. Right now I'm feeling exhausted after a 90 minute hare scramble, so I may need to work up to this! Here's to next year :D

Can't wait to see how people do this year.

The 45th VCGP was fantastic! It was cold, snowy and slippery on Saturday. Sunday was a completely different story. It was sunny but not too hot. The moisture had absorbed and there was no dust.

I got in three 25 mile laps in 3:45. I took all the hard splits but didn't encounter anything too difficult. The course was pretty fast in most sections with a few rocky parts to keep you on your toes. If I figure out how to edit my gopro footage I'll try to post some video. Including my trip over the bars in tbe middle of lap 2.

2017 VCGP registration is open until 2/28/2017 and you have plenty of time to get ready as the event will be taking place on 4/29 - 4/30. We got a group of 6 riding on a row, should be a ton fun.

2017 VCGP is this weekend. Plenty of time to prep the bike and I am sure there are still plenty of spots open. Weather is looking very good. Hope there isn't a lot of dust this year as I am not sure when the area last got rain.

The course today was by far the most difficult of the three years I have ridden this event. I only got two laps in after a down hill crash in a rocky section at the start of lap 2. With my elbow and hip hurting I couldn't keep the pace I had hoped for. The top riders only got 3 laps in while previous years they were able to do four. So I think everyone was feeling the extra difficulty.

So what made it so difficult you might be wondering. It seems like all the rain this year meant there were more rocks then ever. Unfortunately it had not rained recently so there was a ton of dust. Finally they added Sutro Canyon back in this year. That meant a couple miles of down hill with loose rock which leads to the river bed. The river bed wasn't too bad but man I was beat both laps by the time I got there.

Good thing there is a whole year to forget about this one and get excited about the next one.

I got in 4 laps this year on Saturday. First time racing since 2012. I got 6th in Expert 30+ and was pretty close to 4th and 5th. Need to limit those silly mistakes!

Took me a lap or two to remember how to ride since the Sawmill Enduro a month ago. Felt great on lap 3 and the bike started sputtering on the uphill towards the pits at the end of the lap. Need to remember to completely top off the bike before the start. Still super impressed with getting 3 laps and 75 miles off the stock tank.

Today I am pretty sore, but not as bad as in past year. Really digging this standing desk. My hands, back, and ass are pretty smoked....

Congrats on the excellent finish!

I need to get a sit/stand desk. I spend too much time sitting on the bike and it is definitely preventing me from getting faster. I think incorporating a couple of hours of standing instead of just sitting would be beneficial.

I was surprised to hear there were bottlenecks on Saturday. There were certainly plenty of them on the first lap Sunday. There seemed to be a lot of DNF. I wonder how this year compared to previous years.

Bump.

Pre-entry opens tomorrow. I'm gonna sign up for my first VCGP. I've been wanting to do it for the last few years, but the date always conflicted with AFM round 2 at Sears Point.

My registration is going out tomorrow. Really hoping for a better row than last year. Some rain before the event would be great as well.

shit, told @rt_rider that I'd do this someday. Appears that day is here. I-am-garbage-in-the-dirt. Others might argue that this extends further than just dirt, but f*ck them.

You need a pit crew? I can pour gas all over your bike and lose your clean goggles after I sit under the EZ-UP.

Thought about signing up but, naaahhh. That was a tough, long race when I was half my age.
