I'm very happy for this verdict. It's surprising- especially in Texas. This is a good start.

are you fucking kidding me?

This is a trained cop who showed poor judgement. Too busy sexting with her colleagues to realize it's not her apartment, and too trigger happy that she shot a dude eating ice cream watching TV.

Fuck that shit, hope she rots in prison.

Exactly. Trigger happy is exactly what she was.

I live in a multi-floor complex and have twice accidentally pushed the 3rd floor on the elevator leading me to attempt to open the condo one floor below.

She told investigators that she parked on the fourth floor of her apartment complex's garage — rather than the third floor, where she lived

This is a trained cop who showed poor judgement.

That's kind of what I keep going back to. How many times has she used her "trained" eye in the conviction of someone for a crime?

In this case; she can't discern she's on a different floor, she's entering a different apartment, the red rug, the different furnishings... She's so hyper focused on the man in "her" apartment, she can't see the forest?

I can't see how they chose murder over manslaughter though

After shooting the guy, she did little to render aid. She had been trained in de-escalation about eight months prior and testified that she didn’t remember any takeaways from the training. She had been having an affair with her married partner. The jury may have disliked her enough to be influenced by that to some extent.

It may have all added up to a degree of negligence that crossed the manslaughter threshold.

Cops who don't take de-escalation training seriously enough to remember any of it when it counts should not be cops. Period. It is exactly how they can save lives. I really hate this woman right now and hope she rots.

Entire teams of cops have gone into the wrong house as a planned event with safety being a high concern. This is just one person coming home from work.

IT HAPPENS!!

I have also on two occasions heard someone try to open my door. I assume it is the same issue, but would have ended badly for whomever opened the door.

So I believe completely that she could have mistaken the man for a trespasser, and quite possibly we have sent someone to jail who doesn't deserve to be there.

Wut? Send someone to jail who doesn’t deserve to be there? Who are we talking about right now?

You took an innocent persons life due to your own mistakes. I don’t care if they were furnished the same or whatever the case is. She shot and killed someone with her own gun not in self defense in her own apartment, in someone else’s.. that’s a life changing mistake you’re going to have to deal with and she deserves the exact same punishment. 99 years or death. No reason she should just do a couple years. An eye for an eye.

Manslaughter, 10 years

If simply a text or comment in private or in joking could send us to jail.......we'd all have a prison record.

Why is it murder?

Good for you, pat yourself on the back. I'm sure you're not a liar either.

The jury already decided it was murder, but in regard to personal beliefs, I think it mostly comes down to whether or not one believes it was a mistake.

If I walked in to what I thought was my apartment and I was carrying and someone was inside I'd be hard pressed not to start shooting.

That's your first response? No backing away for your own safety? Calling the police? Just...shoot?

So....you'd do something bad to someone that might be doing the same thing you've done? I hope you latch your door tightly.

I think the most natural response to unlocked door confusion is to keep your body outside and slowly push the door open while saying in a wtf tone, "hellooooo??".

An accountant no less.

WTF do people think would happen if they went to a random apartment and shot an accountant sitting on his own couch? Murder conviction.
