That photo is the view from the top of Angels Landing trail at Zion National Park in Utah.

The hike is up along this narrow ridge with 1400ft drop offs on both sides. The views are breathtaking, but not for those afraid of heights.

Here are a few pictures I took along the hike, which is up the ridge on the left.

Came across a Condor on the way up, these things have a 9ft wingspan.

Where the ridge gets steep requiring a little climbing there are chains to hold on to.

Then you get to the top with amazing 360 views of Zion.

Way to share the passion.

Sure is a fun sport.

Every time I come to this thread, I wish I played hookie and rode the day away instead of working in the office.

There is always tomorrow. :ride

Thanks! I have to make it down there this Spring.

We will be up your way very soon, I'm looking forward to it.

What do you do with the camera while not its not in your hand?
Just like many others have said, this is very inspirational. Got me to start going on minor day trips and attempts to plan longer rides with friends.

oh, and i too would buy the book, even on my meager college budget ( food is overrated)

For those of you drooling over Zion based on Frank's pics, all I can say is GO! I rode through/around Cali/Arizona/Utah/Nevada with my pops last year and it is flat out spectacular. Besides, just a day away you'll also find Bryce Canyon, it doesn't have the dizzying cliffs and views that Zion does but it's gorgeous and extremely strange none the less (photo). Besides, there are lots of great roads (paved & dirty) and you can make a killer loop out of it all: Death Valley, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Red Rocks, etc. :ride

Kudos again Frank!

Simply badass... I have to ask though, for you guys on the sportbikes. How do you guys ride the long distances without your ass killing you?? The longest I've ridden my bike was about 5 hour's with maybe 2 10 min breaks.. My ass was killing me. (Granted I don't have much of an ass) but that's not the point. :)

I see your seat on the gixer is stock, and so is my f4i. Would a corbin help?

Yeah that would work too, although I'm not really comfortable riding other peoples bike's yet. I'm getting to know mine pretty well, but it would be hard to get over dropping someone's if it were to happen..

It could have been because we were going through some twisties and I wasn't used to it yet.. I was putting alot of pressure on my wrists without realizing it. Maybe once I drop off the bike more into the turn's I'll take more pressure off my ass end lol.

Awesome pictures Frank. I really like your onboard ones. Do you have any tips for taking pictures while on a bike? I'm hesitant on trying to hand hold the camera. I don't want to leave bits of my camera on the road!

DocWong hosts an ergonomics and riding position clinic once a month. Definitely helps the core and back of your body when you know what to do vs what to not do. Be sure to ask for his opinion on your butt :thumbup

The best picture thread ever. Thanks for sharing, Frank.

Thanks for looking.

DAMNN!! Zion national park is on my places to visit before I die list now.

Definitely worth the visit, and only 170 miles from Vegas, so a cheap flight and rental car can also get you there if you aren't into long rides.

Was just going through the thread again.. and noticed this gem :rofl:thumbup

Just going to take a wild guess that that's Tim's CBR1k.. :)

Nope, that would be Chris (Mr Beer)'s CBR. Tim doesn't drink.

When I'm not taking pictures its in my tankbag, and I'm having fun riding.

Your welcome.

Actually I have the aftermarket gel seat on my GSXR and it does the trick. Also have convertibars raising the bars 4" and bringing them 1" back, adjustable pegs which are on the lowest setting, and a tall windscreen.

The bars and pegs make the biggest difference to me. My older GSXR would put me in pain after a few hours. (I'm 6'1" so a little folded up on stock sportbikes) My 09 GSXR set up for touring is more comfortable on long trips than my car.

If you are seated in a more comfortable position where you can move around a little bit, your ass will do much better. Also what you wear on long rides makes a HUGE difference. Never wear cotton underwear or anything that makes you sweat. (gives you monkeybutt) Also don't wear anything with seams in the butt area.

I use two piece riding suits made of Gore-Tex. They have the same armor protection as race suits, but breath so I don't get hot or sweat. They are weather proof, so I don't need a rain suit. They are also very warm with the vent zippers closed. In the same suit I can ride comfortable from the low 20's to the 110's and in the pouring rain. Only thing is these suits aren't cheap, but well worth the price when it comes to all day comfort in any weather situation.

Some of my buddies use air-hawk seat cushions, or a shaggy wool cover or beads or wear biker shorts under thier gear. Some have custom seats, some just have iron butts. IMO Corbins suck, but everyone's butt is different.

When there is a will, there is always a way. No need to suffer when a couple hundred bucks can put an all day smile on your face. Modding my GSXR for comfort was the best money I ever spent on a bike. It's comfortable yet handles/stops/accelerates much better than anyone human can use on the street, and pegs/bars can be adjusted to race track position in a few minutes.

Hope these tips help.

We do that sometimes... but it just makes me like my bike more when I get it back.

My tip is if you are scared don't do it. Its very dangerous for most people to take pictures while riding which is very evident by their shaky blurry poorly composed shots which show they are in way over their heads. Riding is dangerous enough as it is. Always listen to that little voice in your head. If you are scared to do something there is good reason for it.

Going through your pictures at 4am.. and I'm really wishing there is sunlight so I can escape from the house to go riding right now. :ride

By the way, what's all that white stuff on your helmet? ;) :dunno

That would be reflections of those white puffy things in the sky. Funny that my shield has so much reflection at that angle. Maybe because its polarized.

Thanks for the input.. I'll keep that in mind for my seat.. I don't know if I'll mess with the bar's but I can try adjusting my pegs. Maybe make it a bit more comfortable. Thanks!

Speechless. I just emailed this thread to my mom and dad who never understood exactly why I love riding. This summed it up and even reminded me of why I love it and always will.
