Don't know anything about beef and don't generally eat beef except InNOut. However I still remember when I tried Wagyu some years ago, it just melted in my mouth.

I want to re-create that at home but first where do I buy from & which cut. Where do you all buy it from ? Suggestions/recommendations, please.

Depends how much money you want to spend:laughing it comes in different grades,American Wagyu is crossed with another cow that’s why it’s cheaper,go to a good butcher shop and you can get them to order you some,a real butcher shop
Or check out snake river farms web site, get the gold grade beef maybe about $150 for a nice ribeye, don’t buy the kobi hotdogs their terrible

costco has the bigger ones that are certified A5 for 900-1200$ that come with a birth certificate. I think it's costco.com only, but being that we're in the bay area, it wouldn't surprise me if some locations stock a few. if you split it, it's not a bad deal at all.

I think it’s an over rated meat myself,I’ve had plenty of it
Joys of working as a butcher some times you can’t beat a good grass and grain fed cow,I hate grass fed meat,if you want to spend $600 you can get a nice piece of dry aged meat, the old butcher shop I worked at they do a special on dry aged meat ,you don’t even have to take the whole lump home with you, just ring them up when you want a steak cut off it

wagyu can be found at butcher shops, at least where i live in the central valley where theres cattle. The wagyu that is showing up around my butcher shops is from New Zealand and is $22 lb for ribeye. I just bought a package of 2 wagyu ribeyes today. I wouldnt have but they were out of prime ribeye so i decided to try it out. Prime ribeye here is $21 lb and a bit thicker cut than the wagyu. The marbling is not much different. i can post pics if youd like.

A good ole prime filet cooked right will melt in your mouth. I know people buy prime meat at costco but ive seen their prime compared to what i get at the local butcher and the marbling doesnt even compare nor does the cost. Find a good local butcher.

Good point, I don't want to spend more than $150-$200 or so. It is 3 of us + few bites for our lab :laughing

Ok, that one is out of question then. I was reading about A5 graded cow (?) can sell for around $15000 in Japan, that is crazy.

Sure, if you don't mind.
Looking at online photos thin lines of fat running through a slice of red look lovely and yummy.

Secret to any good steak ,let it sit out for 30 minutes before you cook it,rub it in salt and pepper as soon as you get home from the butcher ,gives a the salt time to work it’s magic turn a shit steak into a nice steak, hot pan some oil then throw some butter in and rosemary, spoon that shit all over your meat lol 3 minutes each side, cast iron pan your gold

I don’t know how to bbq I’m irish We boil baby back ribs with onions in Ireland which is pretty tasty if you’re Irish lol

Americans get pretty turned off at the though of boiled meat I’m off pork at the minute watched too many happy pig videos on Facebook

Never tasted real beef before because of cultural and religious reasons. But I am curious to taste the genetically made beef. Many pundits still say it stil taboo because the DNA of cows is present, but if there’s no sentient being suffering, no animal being killed, then it should still follow the principles of Ahimsa.

Alexanders Steakhouse in Cupertino is selling it. Go to their website. Their quality is good and might be your best bet if you just want a small amount.

They have a spot in the city too but never been there. The difference in types is significant. I'd recommend their sampler meal...they just opened back up. Huge difference between the Australian F5 and the real "kobe" Wagu. My fav is the Okinawa prefecture but don't see it listed. I'd recommend trying the sampler they have at the restaurant some time as they give you small amounts of each and you don't have to worry about cooking it wrong

I had A5 last weekend for the first time ever... absolutely great. I think I paid $70 for 3oz at the restaurant. It was fucking awesome, and a great appetizer for my ribeye.

I suspect that if some sizzling hot bangers and a buttery bowl of colcannon showed up with a nice stout, you'd get right to!

littlebeast

get it while it's easy
when i was a kid my (butcher) grandfather would take all the fat we trimmed off of our meat and make a sandwich out of it. so gross. fast forward to adulthood and during travels to japan, am served wagyu beef - and i was like :green

They cut beef differently in Japan from what I understand.

Heres the "wagyu" = Japanese cattle. I suspect it to be grass fed and grass finished due to the marbling. Also the flavor, my coworker had his last night and his was rich and gamey. Its not comparable to a quality Japanese scale rated beef though.
