10/14/14 Update

So this weekend we are back to El Mirage.

As the season wraps up, this is the second to last opportunity this year to do something special. After this it's the season closer at El Mirage, then six months off. I've been on a dry spell this season, and really would like another Record in Class. The bike has it, it's just me that needs to do it. I'm looking for a 196-198 in the dirty mile this weekend, fingers crossed.

Nick will be working on his B License, which should be cake now since he knows what to do. If we can get him that this weekend, then he accumulates more points and ups his starting position for next year. He has really done a great job this year, it's been awesome having him aboard our little team.

Attached is the current SCTA Standings going into this weekend. All #1 in Class Bikes, now it's a points race for #1 Bike Overall. IMO, Ralph has it nailed, I'll be happy to just finish in top group.

If we get through this season un-challeged, we will be the 1650 Production Champs in the SCTA West 5 times. That's a good run, couldn't ask for anything more. :)

that li'l gem hit home with me after Tuono Joice's Bonneville personal best quest

there were 2 Tuonos running; a count of 4 riders; posting 10 runs across 5 days[!] -
one run was 133mph [literally lost my concentration within 15 seconds.....],
with the other 9 being between 144mph & 149mph

.....The bike has it, it's just me that needs to do it.....

"Good Fortune" to you & team down there - both times

focus!

Game Prep Day

It's funny that no matter how many times we do this, pack and prep day is still a monumental pita. :(

On days like these, we need like 4 extra volunteers to get prepped, loaded and ready. It's not always fun and smiles.

Anyway, wish us luck!

Good luck Papi!!

And yeah... the packing and unpacking are the worst part of going to the races.
I actually think unpacking when you get home is the biggest PITA!!!!

Post Race Report - 10/20/2014

First and foremost: Nick did a great job in Round 1 and qualified for his "B" License. It was epic. Even just seconds before his start I was preaching to him on BP, shift points, head down. He nailed it passing the 175 barrier with a 177 and change. Awesome job Nick. :thumbup :party

My weekend on the other hand, well it was interesting. I'll spare you the travel fun to and fro. Round 1 was a total mess. My shift points were all blown. By the time I recovered from that non-sense, I was halfway through the mile and threw the power down to make up for a crappy 1/4 to 1/2. I made up 30MPH to just squeak through the lights at 180 and change.

Round 2 was another mess. My run and shift points/power was great, but past the 1/2 mile, there was nothing left on the course to run on. It was all chewed up and I couldn't find a line at all. I spun the tire from 160 up to 190, and it got so loose in the end, I just backed out of it as the bike was crabbing and fishing as I went harder, and peddled through the lights at 182 and change. So, 13MPH off my record of 195, and no where near the 196+ I needed to make it stick. Super disappointed in myself.

On the bright side of things, I wasn't the only one struggling with the air and the loose course. Even the best of the #1 riders had issues. The light through the darkness though was Jeannie Pflum, who must now either be in 2nd or 1st Place for #1 Bike. She just rocked her 1000 A bike just missing her record in Round 1 then cinching a new record in Round 2 over 195 on a naked bike. It was freaking awesome to see her run, it was purely epic.

So I have no idea where the points will go. My gut tells me Jeannie may have pushed Ralph out of #1 bike. My lackluster performance may have dropped me from the Top5 Bike pole in points. We will see after it's all posted up.

Bad weekends at the track make for a long drive home from the Mojave. Thank goodness we had plenty of entertaining moments along the way.

Last race of the year is November. It's a 2 day event. Hope we do something special.

2014 Results- 2015 Start
Updated 3/23/2015

We had a great 2014 Season. We finished the 1650CC Production #1 in our class again, that makes us the 5x 1650CC PP Champions consecutively. We got a nice Performance Recognition Award for the 2014 Season, (Pic Attached). Even with a recovering surgery, we still did great and ended up the #4 Top bike, #1 in Class, and in the Top25 of all SCTA Vehicles once again. I cannot be happier with our performance facing all the BS we went through to get it done including multiple trip issues and losing an axel on our trailer in the Mojave!

Nick's big year was great to. He pushed up and chiseled away at points all year, and going faster and faster earning his 175MPH Sticker and B License. He will start earlier in 2015 now.

Our 2015 Program and Prep is underway. As always, if you have some talent in helping the team, and want to volunteer, then please send us a note. We always need volunteers to do a variety of things including just helping us load and prep for Race weekends/trips. Any hands are welcome hands. Our Team shop is based in Morgan Hill.

There are no changes to the 1650 P-P Bike for 2015. We are just gonna run her as hard as we can. This will make 3 straight seasons on that motor build, can't be any happier with how she's performed.

Nick is getting a facelift and motor work done. He will be in 1350 NA Fuel, and possibly juiced as well. His new body is being built by our buddy Kent at AirTech.

The 1350 Blown Fuel Bike is on target to run this year. The motor has been broken in on Gas, and is getting reconfig'd for Fuel now (All Alcohol) so we have a lot of work ahead. I'm attaching a mock up of our cold air package.

Our line up program for the SCTA/BNI 2015 season is:

Bike #2230 Shooting Star I - 1650 Production - Rider Chappell (Steve "Papi" Chappell)
Bike #2232 Shooting Star III - 1350 Modified Fuel - Rider Gomez (Nick Gomez)
Bike #2235 Shooting Star V - 1350 Special Const. Blown Fuel - Rider Chappell (Steve "Papi" Chappell)
Bike #90 Willie's Wheels - 1000 Push Rod Sidecar G&F - Rider(s) Chappell/Gomez

I'll begin posting 2015 Pix and Updates as we get closer showing our new stuff as we get ready to hit May. Really looking forward to this year, keep us in your good thoughts to Go Fast!

At El Mirage in the Mile about 1.50-2L, Bonneville about 3-3.75L.
By comparison, we expect the 1350 Alcohol bike to burn 8-12L in the mile
and 25-30L at Bonneville.

3/28/2015 Update

Big cleaning day in the shop today. We are interviewing new intern/shop assistants and had one do a full day live work interview today. Good kid, solid worker. Ah to be 16 again.

The New Rat Motor for TMW is about ready to drop in, thats on target for the next week. Thank goodness to, we need to have a spare 1 ton on the ready, mines about to go sideways again. :(

Started prepping the Production Bike today, also the schematic on all things electrical for the BF bike which will be a full host of MoTec wonderment including the m800, the CL125 and their PDM all on CAN. We are pretty happy with the m400 we've used, but the BF bike is big fuel and big ignition plus lots and lots of data-aq. This is a major expense, probably the second most expensive component layer next to the hairdryer and it's stainless accouterments.

Big Nicky came down to the shop also for a bit, punched the Intern in the head to make sure he could take it, then we had us a meeting over the next two weeks planning. We have motors in two places, bodies being built in SoCal, and many more miles of grief to get to the opener in May. Plus, we still have no "official" transport yet. One rig is inbound slated for mid-April. The big trailer is becoming a headache as all the units we like are out of state in AZ or TX. Plus, they are like 20-30% cheaper down there. So that headache needs to go away fast. Know of a 26'-32' Enclosed and ready outfitted used car race hauler? Well damn Skippy, hits me up with that bronerlicious detail then already. Clocks a ticken'.

All in all, just a typical Saturday in Pre-Season, :party
