The street is full of deadly hazards, and there's more to keeping risk at an acceptable level than just slowing down. How much you need to slow down depends on the potential consequences of misjudgment. In another thread, Gary J urges riders to take it down a notch in right-handers compared to left-handers due to the oncoming-vehicle hazard. I would extend that to any turn where an impact hazard like a guardrail or redwood poses a lethal impact risk.
