Update:

Things got a bit stalled with the bike as we had some other things going on. When my SO rode it he felt the bike was strong and healthy; however the clutch took an amazing amount of strength to operate.

American Dirtbike offers a hydraulic clutch kit. It was pricey but since I'm into the bike for so little I went for it.

With the new Magura clutch kit installed it was finally my turn to ride the Rescue Bike :banana

We loaded up the van and headed to Knoxville Berryessa. Things sometimes don't go according to plan :(

NOT A COOL CAMPSITE!

Once again Bambi waged war and took casualties. This time it was our beautiful Sprinter van that lost its life. Purchased new and built specifically for our lifestyle, this van has carried us to many adventures. It was a sickening feeling seeing it at the bottom of a ravine.

We think the deer rolled under the van causing it to veer off course.

So long old friend :cry

It took the better part of 4 months to resolve the total loss with our insurance company, for awhile it looked as though we would be unable to replace the van, The Other half was injured in the accident and things with bikes and builds stalled :(

Upon our return we off loaded the bikes and the ATK was rolled into the shop with another to do list.

The slave cylinder doesn't seal correctly where it enters the clutch housing adding yet another oil leak to the many already pre-existing. :|

We attempted a fix when out but it didn't really do anything.

With the pricey Magura clutch installed I opted to install some bark busters (hand guards)
Good thing I did as the bike took a few opportunities to nap on our Sierra trip ;)

The original ATK decals shredded in the wind while we were towing the bike. Instead of spending the cash to replace them I've opted to just sticker the heck out of the tank. The bike is accumulating quite an array of souvenirs :laughing

Beastie also got a new headlamp assembly!! This is a Baja Designs and close to the original light. It looks good and is quite bright.

Additionally, Moto Xotica was able to find a source for a heavy duty bash plate.

As of today I have just under $2000 invested in this glorious bike.

It's still waiting to be graced by Woodschick's butt in the saddle. My SO is convinced that with the lowering mods this is the ultimate big bike for small people.

We leave this weekend for Saline Valley and this girl is excited to get out in the desert and stretch her bikes legs!

Fantastic :thumbup (nice mood restore after the Sprinter pictures), Loven the bash/skid plate, addition.
The whole report has high points.
Loven the Hand Guards..That really should be called lever guards, cause not breaking levers, is So vital, out there.

Wish I was there to trouble shoot the clutch, issue.

It is reassuring to know the best folk are on it though. :thumbup

Still Good Lookin'
Sorry to hear about the injuries, as well as the Sprinter. Hope this weekend makes it allll worthwhile. :thumbup

Junkie

gone for now
Too bad to hear about the Sprinter and injuries.

I have a stock clutch lever from my KTM that I think would fit your clutch master. I think it's a little bent but functional. Yours next time I see you if you want it.

Hey ThumperX,

Not sure how I missed this epic thread (gotta get out of the VC and AR sub-forums more often, I guess ...) ... :thumbup

Thanks for posting and bringing the dock-find ATK back to a good life! :ride

see you around the campfire,

Useful idiot
I'm glad you bumped this thread, John. Having had the fortune of being allowed to swing a leg over this thing, I can tell you that she did one heck of a job bringing it back to life. This bike is an absolute hoot to ride. :thumbup
