The Oakland A's want to build a stadium by Laney College

There is a good FAQ on oaklandballpark.com and one of them is "What is going to happen to the Coliseum site"

We plan to help create a regional sports complex, to include a recreational multi-use sports complex and an Urban Youth Academy for baseball and soccer. The new sports complex will be part of a broader public-private partnership between the A's and various agencies. The proposed plan includes substantial new housing options - including affordable housing - as well as a skills center, community gathering space, hotel, and office and retail development. This type of project will ultimately help the Coliseum site realize its full potential for the residents of Oakland for the long-term.

:laughing I'm sure that's gonna turn out just like they plan...

First thing they need to do is stop the shit from flowing into the building when the plumbing backs up.

Rolls with it...
Weren't the back-ups caused by somebody (players?) stuffing towels (bath and shower, not paper) down the toilets?

dude are you ever positive about, like, anything? goddamn :laughing

Stupidity bugs me. Governmental stupidity, particularly by a city government as incompetent as Oakland's, really bugs me. I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist, and I think wasting resources (time and money) on plans that have zero hope of ever being successful is stupid. The only thing missing from the plan mentioned are the unicorns flying overhead and the gold coins flowing from their assholes.

I member when his house sold, I'm pretty sure I felt some Archimedes stoke for like, 1/3 of a second!

No, I'm still stoked about that. Double stoked actually, because the guy who bought it, threw a bunch of money at it, flipped it, and didn't make any more than we sold it to him for. With remod and realtor fees, he probably took a six figure loss. I only care because he lied to us about buying it to live in with his family, which was important to us as good neighbors to our former neighbors, and then just flipped it.

Let's see, shitty place that have no major league..... Albequerque, Big Sur, Monterey Peninsula, Marin County, Humboldt, Palm Springs, and hundreds of others. Major league sports should not be supported financially by any government in any way.

So what you're saying is, removing professional sports from Oakland will make it a shitty place. :twofinger

Not as fast as I look.
I don't care if we have them or not. I very much care if the City of Oakland puts up one penny to bring them here.

Haha. No. Just. Hockey is better! Come on, let's fight, ball boyz!!!

Lol.

I'm just saying..people mad about subsidizing sports is silly. Of course they are expensive. But it is a social event that gives people a sense of caring about their city. Oakland is fucking up big time with their sports decisions.
All these teams had plenty of fans coming to games BEFORE they started raping tax payers for their private enterprise. I am with afm199 100% when it comes to not supporting teams with tax payer money. The tickets should be free to local tax payers, or they shouldn't get a dime of public funding.

BTW, you want another dose of 'reality' about why these, and a lot of other, dopey Government plans are nothing more than dreams in fairy tale land? Read this. There ain't gonna be money for anything, much less nonsense like what they plan for the old stadium.
