Sucks about the knee, Sid. Hope it gets better over the break.
Got a PWK 38 to replace the Mikuni on the the Husky so was spending time jetting yesterday. Got it pretty dialed in and that bike just flat rips; can't get over how much fun it was and how much power that motor puts out.

Sorry I missed you out there Micah, was looking for a trials bike not the X trainer. Dirt was soooooo good you could go up anything (if you got the skills). MX track was open but you had to ride the trails to get to it; all the burn area at Kiln was open too, lots of folks out riding!

Oh man that’s a bummer I missed you. Pretty much epic conditions though I get a little nervous hitting the real gnar at Carnegie when solo. Did a bunch of trail riding and then tweaked on doing slow wheelies for far longer then a normal person should given the epic trail conditions...

Sucks about the knee Sid, but at least it didn't happen during PITS season. Hopefully you can heal up quickly.

Hit up Carnegie today on big bike, yes conditions were perfect! Tons of people out there today but didn't run into much traffic out on the trails. unfortunately trials area is still closed.

Riding All The Time
Does anybody ever use the Trials area at Hollister?

Yesterday I discovered they are building a retaining wall(?) right where it blocks the approach to one of my favorite trials sections in that area.

Seems to me another misguided waste of time and resources to build this wall. Not sure what it's supposed to help.

I rarely go to hollister now that I'm in livermore, but they definitely didn't have those posts up last time I was there. I'll ask a guy in our club next time I talk with him to see if he knows anything as I think he is well connected with the folks at Hollister.

If the Adobe section is open next Sunday I might be down there :)

Riding All The Time
If you're looking for someone to ride some technical stuff with at hollister give a shout, I could prob ride Sunday

Would be interesting to know why they think they need the wall. Doesn't make much sense to me, but lots of things don't haha.
Here's the start of the wall:

Hey all just a reminder that a group of us meet at Metcalf every Saturday morning around 8:30AM. We usually lay out some tape for an intermediate level section with some chicken line outs around the gnarlier features.

Anyone know when they will open the Trials section at Carnegie? I was there on Saturday and asked the ranger parked next to the MX track. She said she thinks they will know about opening access to that area (instead of going through all the trails to get to MX track) within a few weeks.

The gate to the 4x4 section was open but she said can't ride trials bikes in there.

Not sure when I'll get out there again but will post in case anyone else wants to join for a trials ride.

Yeah I was out these last weekend and rode almost down to the track then came up on a pack of guys with one down. Guy had a broken leg and was still where he fell, had help and helpers so I took off back up hill rather than down to where the ranger was at the track.

According to Brewster (CORVA) the last aspect of the lawsuit against Carnegie by the Conallys is to be heard on Jan 27. That detail has to do with whether the spillway (access across the creek) can be used by all or is limited to Conally ranch people only. I have a feeling that is what the ranger was referring to. We'll find out next week!

Haven't ridden the Scorpa for over a month, been on the big bike only. Playing with the AER forks, shim stacks etc; the TX300 really likes to go fast so I need the suspension to work right. Have been toying with the idea of getting a 301RR, no real reason other than I can and pretty soon the 2t will be a goner in CA. Gotta' start riding no matter what though, season starts in 1 1/2 months and me and Sid are running the first event: EEK!

I must have just missed you Luke. I came across that guy lying in middle of the trail and his bike off to the side; right away told me he broke his femur. I bolted down to the ranger at the MX track and she radioed for help.

There were a few other people by the time I got back up to him, then I took off once someone said they were with him and would take care of his bike.

Anyway, yeah I hope we have access to the trial area soon. It's not that great, but it is good practice.

I've been seeing more and more husky's out there. Met a guy named Daryl in some of the gnarly trails who said he used to belong to pits. Said he made a lot of the goat trails out there. Not sure when I can get out and ride next, hopefully soon.

Must've only missed you by a minute or two at the accident. I was going to go down to the ranger as a follow up but two guys coming up the trail saw you almost at the bottom so I backed off. Guy looked pretty hurt but I didn't see a compound, no idea how he wrecked that bad at that spot. All I could imagine was he looped it on the way up and the bike fell on him.

Think I've met Daryl before, rides an older TS yamaha and a newer Beta. Traction has been so damn good out there I've been hitting hill climbs I'm usually too chicken to try :)

Here is what I think happened since his two other buddies were down at the MX track when I first notified the ranger. They were coming from Big Bear trail side and there is one last square edged small jump before you hit those sandy switch backs that run across the paved access road.

I think he was trying to keep up with his buddies and hit that little jump too fast which probably high sided him. Like you said, maybe the bike hit him.

He was surprisingly calm the entire time. Reminder that anything can happen at anytime. I don't mind riding by myself at place like Carnegie or Hollister, but imagine that happening deep in Georgetown and you are by yourself. Scary!!!

Made it out to the Carnegie Trials practice area early Saturday morning for about 2 hours. Definitely need to bring my weed wacker next time since it's very overgrown with weeds, prickers, etc.

It would be super nice if they allowed us to ride in the 4x4 area like they do at Prairie City (trials bikes only, not big bikes). I'm going to ask Dan King if he has any insight into why Prairie City (State run OHV park) allows that but Carnegie doesn't?

Funny, I was wondering who was out there before me! Was out yesterday and rode only the practice area for about 2 hrs, tried to knock down as many weeds as I could. Found some fun new lines I was not able to do last time I rode it, they do have some really good obstacles in there don't they?
Kiln was all closed and with the fire damage I can't imagine any of our sections up there will be usable. Most were just off the trail but they don't want to encourage ANY riding off the trail so that may be an issue. Sure was nice to get back over by the MX track, just felt right.

Yep that was me :) How crazy slippery was the dirt around the center of all the obstacles? It was like ice when I was there.

I think that entire Klin canyon will be closed for a while. Another rider out there told me once they have a burned area, it only reopens as "trails only" so not hopeful we would be able to use anything in there.

Saturday morning Sid and I are at Copper doing our first day of set up for the Saturday gate trial, meeting Bryce and the land owner to go over stuff. Just got and email about the "best of the West" series, would sure like to make 4 of those but don't see it happening. Montana!? Man that's a haul to make and our Saturday event is the first of the series and first of the season.

Put a deposit down on a 301rr...April is the delivery timeframe. All the guys riding EXP are on 4t save Dave and Josh so I'm thinking there may be something to that. Also spoke to Robbie and Riley about them last year, both came off 2t and love the 4t at that level. Haven't ridden a 4t since Sid got his Beta a few years ago, hopefully I won't faceplant too much from engine breaking.

When in doubt gas it!
Engine braking....lol yeah that got me a few times, but I think that sharp steering radius of the Beta's got me more times. Stoked to be setting a course even though it's a gate trial it will still be a lot of fun. Congrats on the new purchase cant wait to see it. Kneemri shows a torn lateral meniscus....who cares still going to ride..lol. Anyways will probably miss riding the Copper trial on Sunday but hopefully make the Chrome event. Cheers !

Heal up Sid! I will probably hit Carnegie up on Sunday morning and bring my weed wacker to clear the overgrowth in the trials area.

I was considering doing the National at Kingman AZ but not sure it's in the cards. I watched the world round there and there terrain is awesome.

May try and come out Sunday morning depending on family stuff, two of us riding could get down a bunch of weeds ;)
