The Essential Trials Stickie

Cleared out pretty much all the overgrown weeds around the rocks. A guy with an older GG 200 showed up (works at Stockton moto) and was putting around.

Didn't ride very long as I'm trying to shake this cold for last week or so. Was pretty blown away when 3 guys on KTM 300's showed up. One guy went over the big cement cylinder, that has the two offset cement blocks on the back side, on his 300. It would be pretty hairy on a trials bike!

Anyway can't wait for the opener at Copper guys! Going to try to make the gate trial you are putting on.

Glad you got the weeds tamed down a little! COuldn't make it out but did get to ride some on Saturday with Sid and Bryce. We got a pretty good lay on the loop and where we want to run sections, found a couple of new spots I've never ridden a section in so that will be a plus.
Was pretty dry so traction was good, fun to ride around some with Bryce, he's a pretty good rider all said and done.

Had a good time riding Saturday too, felt good to be back on the bike. I like our loop and think it should work, I dont like where we cross the road/creek and go up the hill through that area that is usually a Sun section. I think that hill is to much for beginner riders, I feel we should scout out a better crossing, even hand cut a trail if needed, I've got the time to cut it out next week as we will be up there half the week. PS let me know when you want to work on trophys, Francesca has a lunch planned out and will take care of that. Mark, I've seen a couple guys before ride in the trials area on big bikes and truly impressive, they both said they ride endurocross events and like to train in there, seems like a great place to break a bike...lol.

Luke, I haven't been able to find that Marzocchi damping rod in my garage. I'll continue to look.

Sid, I bet you're right about those guys being endurocross riders. I remember we ran into one guy who knew Harry when we were looking at sections last year.

Once all of us can get to Carnegie at the same time, maybe we can get the rangers to rearrange some of the obstacles.

OK, hope it's around but I think they tried to contact Jim about one so hopefully that will end the hunt. Next couple of weekends will be full getting ready for the Gate trial, doubt I can get out to Carnegie until after the event.

Speaking of which: anyone reading this can sign up to check on Saturday or Sunday but we're looking for Saturday. There's a sign-up link on the PITS websitehttp://www.sactopits.org/event/bac/?instance_id=233

Always a fun event as its the first of the year, wet and a cool place to ride. Are you listening 1962siia and EricB? : ) We need to get you two back to a couple of events this year, riding not just checking!

Well the British American Cup trial this coming up weekend is just about ready for riders. We've got a couple new sections set up as well as a twist or two on some of the other sections that have been used before. Dont miss this one, first event in Conquer the West trials series too, should be a blast. We are looking at great conditions for both events Sat and Sun. If you've never been to a trials event this is a good one to come out and watch as you can walk to every section. Saturday night open house at Lewisports shop just down the road with some food and drink to enjoy as you browse the trials shop. If you want to check you can sign up on Sacrament PITS website. Hope to see you all out there !

Well the British American Cup went off without any issues. Sid and I had to mark the last bit of section perimeter and loop on Friday then came the riders. We knew there was going to be a strong turn out as the weather was good and it was part of the "Best of the West" series but we weren't expecting that kind of crowd. 95 riders on Saturday, 87 on Sunday; Saturday was the biggest attendance in 30 years according to one of the main club members.

We had a couple of Top riders at the event riding for Vertigo; Dustin and Dalton Land. Dustin was a pro for a number of years and is now coaching his sun Dalton, Dalton is starting his first year as a pro this year. We got a slew of positive comments about our gate trial and the layout from a wide range of folks, upper level and lower level riders. It was a complete success so all the work that Sid, Francesca and I did paid off; not only did we accommodate 95 riders without too long lines but people had fun in the sections too.

Sunday was also fun, Adrian set the sections tight and it was dry so most of the trick was finding traction in the soft stuff and trying not to make stupid mistakes. After Saturday I was pretty spent so rode poor on Sunday, still had fun but my scores were double some of the other ADV folk....yikes! Little bit of rain hit us mid-day but just enough to get the punch cards wet, not enough to effect the dirt. Had one of the upper level riders come backward off an 8 ft cliff above a stream and flat land on his feet, immediately he was down on the ground in pain. Had to get air lifted out with a possible compression fracture in his lower back, never seen any injury near that severe in all the time I've been riding events and it put a somber tone on Sunday afternoon. He had feeling in his toes and made it to the airflight went well, we're all hoping he can recover fully as he is only 17.

As a wild side note: I was setting one of the last loop markers Friday down near where a stream cuts through the area. On one side the stream cut is about 1 foot but on the other there is about a 12-16ft vertical wall. People camp and ride on the high wall side and they had set up a small kids section near the edge (10 ft at the closest point). Some guys was riding the kids section and I hear a throttle rev out and look up just in time to see this guy launching off the 12 ft cliff and coming off the back of the bike like a starfish. Guy drops partially on his back into the creek and weeds below with the bike revving full bore in the muck. I run over to see if he's OK thinking this could be really bad but the guy gets up. I kill the bike as I ask him if he's OK and as he's slowly realizing what just happened he also realizes he's fine. Not even a bruise (aside from his ego), couldn't believe it. One ill placed rock in that stream and he would've been the other air lift out of there this weekend, man did he get lucky...

Next event it Prairie city in a couple of weeks, I'll likely check that one as I usually do, then off to Rocky Ridge in late March. That's always a fun one and the camping is good.

Nice report Luke! Sounds like there was carnage out there this weekend but hopefully those two riders are okay.

Pretty cool watching Dalton in my section which the Masters had to drop into a VW bug size hole sideways then pretty big vertical up with no run up. Think he was the only Master to clean that section.

Don't think I'll make PC but if wrist is better possibly Rocky Ridge. If not it will probably be National or the following event in May.

I really miss riding and its only been 2 weeks I've been off the bike!

Great right up Luke, but you left out the awesome amazing trophys you made at your shop, thank you Luke for volunteering your time and mad skills and equipment. On sunday I've never had the opportunity to just ride around and watch different sections and riders...have to say trials really is a great spectator sport and just damn fun to be apart of an amazing trials famil/club. Next year the event will be called the Copper trial and may be held in a different location, the new developer's of the town square have a couple hundred acres that will be developed soon and want us to hold an event close to the town square to help promote the downtown area.

It was Prairie City this weekend and they ran despite the Coronavirus and rain. I was out to check only; rode the big bike on Saturday before the rains to test the revamped front suspension.
Sunday was wet, drove through some major downpours on my way out but during the event we got rain not heavy rain. Turnout was low (I'm guessing 40 riders or less?) and conditions were tough, lots of rocks and logs. The logs are all missing bark so when wet they are like ice. I had a simple section with a couple of log crossings that took points all day, you really had to loft the front over then weight shift forward, unweight the back and let it roll over or the back would go wherever and so would you. For the EXP/MAS class they had to go over a log on a small hill, turn 180 and come back over the log going down then make a right and go over a branch arm to get out. Main issue was the log was about 40" in diameter and had a small undercut. Getting up it looked doable (about the size of the big end of my log at home) but going down it looked like a total endo if you rolled it. Due to the rain holding pressure on top was dicey and if you lost it you had about 6 ft to lawn jart yourself into the ground.
Got 5 out of Bryce the first loop; 3 from Trevor; 5 from Clive and Adrian; Josh and Dave got 3's as well. Bryce plated the log down on his 5 and proved it could be rolled, that changed everyone's approach but I think I only got 1 clean all day, maybe not even one. Clive took the 5 all three rounds just to give an example of how sketchy that log was.

All in all it was an OK event, everyone seemed to just want to run it and go. Not much socializing or run on. Rocky is in 2 weeks, we'll see how the weather and virus stuff goes, hopefully it will be the usual beautiful blue skies with green fields to wheelie through.

Yeah so saw videos of few sections Saturday and looked really slick out there. Totally bummed I won't make Rocky Ridge but thinking I can get on the bike the week after that.

Looks like the young guns in the exp/master class are showing up the older gents :)

Some guys don't worry about missing work....:) Actually Robbie was riding pleasure and he opted to avoid the big stuff in my section, surprised me. It was so slick that dabbing on a log could've given you a hyper extension of the knee.

Nice....hows the big bikes suspension ?? Get it dialed in ?

Only rode for an hour or two, enough to play with some clickers and get too much rebound but not enough to fine tune it. MXtech leaf mid with custom stacks is pretty nice, I'm happy. Have to re-do the shock now, feels like crap with not enough rebound damping, keeps popping my butt in the air if I'm not over the back.

If you guys are available and need to look at stuff at Carnegie for the event in November, I think I could ride my bike (no obstacles) on Saturday. Just a thought.

Me, Sid and Geoff were out there two weeks ago as the club wanted a definitive answer as to whether we would run in November or not. There's quite a few pf our old sections that will work and we can keep the Sunday loop running up Kiln and back down Los Osos depending on what's open. Stuff that is not available is the two creek sections and that first rock out cropping with the sharp rocks on that little ridge above Black bear. Second rock pile right on the road is good as is Geoff's rocks, Overlook (where we ran into that extreme enduro guy that knew Harry), Elephant rocks (just down the hill) and a creek section that we couldn't find but is close. Other sections can be in the 4x4 area (Jeremy said they will close the whole area for us to use, especially if we have rain closures). The three of us felt like there was quite a bit to choose from.

Saturday will be about half or more down low with only a section or two higher up in Kiln but not all the way up as the loop might be too hard for 4 line.

All that said I'd come out and ride with you if you want to check out what we looked at. Pretty hard to go look at all those spots and not ride them though :0

Got it, okay I thought you guys still needed to scout for some sections. Maybe we hold off and see if we can all go for a ride before red sticker season ends and I can actually hit some rocks :)

I'll look through my old emails to see if Jeremy confirmed we could ride red sticker bikes in green sticker season if it is for purpose of working on an event.

Stay safe out there!

Decided to test out the wrist for an hour or two at carnegie yesterday afternoon. Didn't feel too bad with a brace except for downs which felt little sketchy since all weight is on my wrist.

Luke, met guy who lives in Oakland hills and knows you. He is getting a '18 TRS and has a 250 Husky as well. Can't remember his first name but starts with a G and last name is Lucero. Told him to check this forum to see when we might be riding at carnegie next.

Stay safe and hope everyone is healthy.

Glad to hear the wrist was OK, don't know how I missed you. Was out on the Husky at the West end of the Park from 12:30-3 or so, rode from one end to the other a couple of times playing with the suspension. We'll have to get out and ride soon, maybe Sunday (rain Saturday)? Looks like they are staying open for the time being.

Gabriel texted me this AM about meeting you, small damn world this is. I know him from NY 20 yrs ago, came by to look at Donna's 125 gasser then went for the 18 TRS. That's a pretty big jump for a first time bike, hope he likes it. He'll have to deal with regging here and its an out of state bike; we all know how much fun that is, remember Jim's issues?

I was parked down by the camping grounds, got there just before you left. You probably saw all the picnic tables moved so I don't they will close anytime soon if they just did all that work. Fingers crossed!

Will let you know if I can get out Sunday morning, really want to get out on big bike but don't think my wrist is ready for that.
