The Essential Trials Stickie

So has anyone spoke with the rangers yet and gotten any kind of feed back on wether we will be able to throw the trial ?? Any info on past events at Carnagie or anywhere else that has been able to throw events in a post burn area ?? My feeling is that they will use this closure to make the whole east side of the park a trail system only riding area as this seems to be the pattern of the future. Any thoughts of Frank Raines as a back up ?

Last weekend I talked with Howard and Ted about just that. Ted said that even though riding in the creek was always against the rule they never enforced it; now he said they are and citing. Last event left a bad taste is everyone's mouth due to theft and noise so to do one there with no creek will limit interest I'd bet.

I may get out this weekend to talk with Jeremy, if not I'll email and see what's up but would rather do it in person.

The creek is completely fenced off now with no trespassing signs. I don’t think club will want to have an event there.

If the west hills are open hopefully the fire won’t effect our event

If the west hills are open we can definitely scout out some more sections, my other concern is if the east hills are closed and only the west side is open, going into red sticker riding season, wont the park be crowded if we are all condensed into the only west side riding area ?? Safety comes to mind !!

Looking good Luke! I can never static balance up against a tree or rock with my tire straight. Been trying to practice short runs up to rocks.

See you at Bear Valley :)

I was at Schaad and riding the practice area behind Kris and Filip R and they were going over the teeter totter from a static balance. Tried to copy them and it was tough, couldn't really do it. Been working on it ever since and this is what I've found out...
In order to really get over something or get over it from close you have to get the throttle/clutch/unweight timing right or it won't work. I can see this when I go over my big log; timing good I come off the back holding pressure; timing bad I skid plate it. If you take a run up to the obstacle you can't tell where you miss your timing; from static it has to be right or you aren't getting over. Practice from static and the other stuff is easy (run up).

What gets me is when the stuff is higher than you can get a front wheel on. The bars hit you in the hips just trying to balance; how are you supposed to drop your weight down then launch up and forward when the bars are in the way!? Some of it is having more weight to the rear and not getting too far back (wheelie); part of it is you can only put the wheel so far up and any more will cause problems.

I'm using the super slo mo to try to see what I'm doing on good ones and what I'm doing on bad ones so I can correct it. The second one is good; come off holding pressure with the front off the ground; first one I skid plate it and dab. You can barely see a difference but on the second one my legs get fully extended before the rear hits the log; first one they are still bent a little.

The goofy "bionic" sound on the slo mo is the motor, always helps to hear what the revs are doing at the same time you see the movement.

Probably be on my back at Bear, the log is slick but those rocks are soooooo grippy you can drive up them almost vertical!

Didnt get to ride bear valley this year, but we did check on Saturday. Great section there on section one, they had to drop down around a big boulder and ride back k around it on a narrow trail with lots of basketball size boulder that were constantly moving making it a tough section if you did t walk it each time, lots of 5's there. Zero and zero+ riders had to drop down a even steeper boulder behind the first big boulder turn in a tight radius the zap back up a five foot almost vertical rock. Everyone made it up that rock then the 0+ riders had to climb a 4ft vertical ledge turn on top with almost no room come back down it then hit the other 5 footer at a angle then ride back out. Fun section, everyone was complaining about Hornets buzzing about seems there was a nest near by, never got stung but they were annoying. Anyways had to finish a section on our house that was exposed to the rain that we didnt expect......."Gotter done". Have to start riding again been so dam busy, cant wait to have a ride up here at the grow.

Yeah I didn't ride either. Got about half way up and stopped for gas noticed a pool of oil under one of my fork legs...seal leaking. That was the stanchion I replaced a little while ago due to a nasty scratch, caught it pretty quick so I re-used the old seal. Has been working fine in my back yard the last month+ but it decided to give up the ghost. Change in plans for sure.

Your section sounds about like what I was expecting, excellent traction up there always leads to steep, tricky climbs with exposure. Have to admit, having only that tiny little practice area to ride makes that event less attractive, you have to ride both event days to get to ride much at all. Glad the house is coming along, bet the rain yesterday kept some of the dust down, looks like they even got some snow at higher elevs. Red sticker is almost here.

It was a good event on Sunday with only 2 scary downs and ups weren't that scary but difficult to get up. I had a lot of fives 2nd and 3rd loops due to clutch hand cramps and not making it up short run up steep vertical ups.

I rode at metcalf once since checking at the last event and there aren't rocks at Carnegie or Metcalf that allow me to practice for Bear, PITS, etc. I need to work on "attacking" those vertical ups for sure :)

No injuries or bike damage so I'm happy and always fun to ride those granite rocks. Looking forward to the next event as it gives me about two weeks of red sticker time before the event!!

Hoping to check the next Saturday event then ride Sunday.

Weather starting to cool of a bit, hopefully get a good weekend with the weather to have you guys up to the grow. That granite is impossible to mimic just gotta practice on it, no substitute.

Hey, everyone. It's been years since I last made an attempt to get into trials but I'm back. :D

I heard a rumor there are some folks who meet up at Metcalf M, Th, F mornings. Heard there's some Facebook page but I can't seem to find it as I don't use Facebook and that limits my ability to search. Perhaps someone here can verify?

I dropped in this morning but didn't see anyone on trials bikes. I think I'm going to be out of town on Th and F and maybe I'll try again this coming Monday.

Granite trial this last weekend, weather was about perfect although a tad cold at night (mid 30's). Saturday 0 line was fun, had some challenging stuff and I'm liking the full day warm up for Sunday.

Sunday overall was fun, had a couple spots that bit me every loop but at least I didn't miss a gate or get a stupid 5. Bumbled through 3 all day, that undercut rock with the drive after had me beat. 5'd it first loop then on 2 and 3 I stopped right between the two and had to get up that big slab from a stop...bring on the 3.... Tied Tom for 3rd in class but he beat me on cleans so I got 4th. For the first time I felt at home in ADV, kinda helped that this trial was on the easier side. Congrats on the win Mark, you had some nice scores in there.

Good to see Eric B out there both days checking, when I talked to him Saturday his eyes looked a little wide and he was having a good time watching the riders. Sunday he had nice little section way off in a far corner of the property, easy line for me.

You'd have liked it Sid, last one of the year up there. Any of you thinking of going down to Scott H's event Dec 7? I'm real tempted, ride somewhere new with lots of big rocks. 5 hrs each way seems like a haul but bet it will be worth it.

I heard the same thing but can't even get out there during the week so not sure if they still meet. The group on FB is "Metcalf Trials" so if you do a search it should come up (assuming you have a FB account).

I 5'd section 3 on my 3rd loop too. If you weren't lined up perfectly coming up that little rock at the bottom you would get bounced around and that's what happened to me. Really fun trial though and you looked comfortable when I saw you in the sections Luke.

Which section was Eric B checking on Sunday? #9? Trying to remember what he looks like.

I checked section 5, on sunday. Nice vantage point, on a big rock in the middle. Dan Davis was punching.
I checked section 8 on saturday.
Very enjoyable to watch everyone come through. Lot's of talented riders.
