South Tahoe rentals' serious NIMBY charge $1000 for three cars

"Sorry you can't come over to dinner as that would be three cars." :wtf

I doubt that it's police officers cruising around looking for violations, it's probably all driven by neighbors reporting violations.

Just stay on good terms with your neighbor, otherwise things will get ugly!

from my understanding the rule ONLY applies to registered VHR homes

GAJ actually may have meant "two different vacation rentals" that phone each other and come to dinner. I can easily see that happening, two families of five for example.

Once again, even in my first post I put "parked [fully] on the property" :wow .. so that's why it's pretty weird. But we'll see, :dunno :laughing

Not at all - at least with the people I know. Most just don't like the assholes in the middle of the night pissing or puking over their decks into our own yards where our kids play.

that sucks.. I would sympathize anyone who has 'neighbors', i.e. party-comers like those. First off the people I've been with are never like this (hello, doctors??) so .. we don't do that :rofl

However. In the few times I've been there I cant recall being able to physically puke into the neighbor's place--we weren't *that* close---we must be talking about some tight vacation rentals there. Not sure where's the mismatch. If you complain about vacation rentals come to SF where it's so much tighter, you could see the vacationer simply slamming a door into your house, not to mention when having a party

Yes that is what I was referring to.

I guess the answer is to rent a large vehicle so you only have one and guests can come over if they pile into one vehicle.

But maybe there is a fine on a large vehicle! :laughing

Who is the ticket issued from? I mean, what if you don't pay, will it appear on your driving record?

Local Police, it plainly says so in the article.

Might be a municipal worker, who can still issue tickets probably, just like in SF (In SF those do mostly for buildings; for parking there's the MTA, *and* the police doing ticketing, the latter rarely)

the silver lining here is that south shore kinda sucks anyway... i'm sure this will spread all around the lake though

Probably issued by police and/or code enforcement.

bench warrant

While the article does not specifically state, I'm betting they are handling these as "administrative citations" rather than criminal. If so, that would mean no bench warrant. But it would mean that unpaid fines are sent to collections, like other outstanding unpaid debt.

$2000 fine is a ridiculous amount of money for something so minor lol

That's probably how they're paying for 6 code enforcement officers, instead of, maybe 2 for the size of the city. If they are issuing administrative citations, the fines are civil and the whole amount goes to the city, unlike criminal fines where cities get very little.

Article says they're in reading permit fees to cover code enforcement personnel as well. Belt aad suspenders instead of raidig an unrelated bank account... how novel

I am all for using the monetary value of the fine to deter bad behavior

Personally, I think most fines should be structured in a similar manner.

In this case it is not bad behavior. It's an unreasonable amount of money put in place by shitty rich people that feel now that they're there, it's done, and should never change, evolved, or be enjoyed beyond whatever they decide. But hey, this is the modern world, and how we opeate in America. Screw other people, what we want is most important, we need to use money power and influence to keep the less haves away the hell from us haves.

Also fines are meaningless if you're say, rich, and over-kill if you're poor. a $1000 fine could bankrupt a poor person anda rich person would laugh at it.

It's a terrible system.

The rules seem mostly reasonable except for the street parking and the hot tub usage (the latter is already covered under the noise requirements.)

What the rules will do is tank the value of McMansions that were specifically designed to allow huge families to gather there. I wonder how many of these homes are out there?

Not fond of used condoms and beer bottles on my grass most every Saturday and Sunday morning. Or people parking on my grass, breaking sprinkler heads weekly. I've come home from week long work assignments and have found my driveway completely filled with other people's cars even.

I’ve got no problem with people who come and rent quietly, politely and respect that they’re in a residential neighborhood.

Easy to criticize unless you live here and have to deal with it constantly. We’re hardly a bunch of smug elites – there are plenty of those here though, admittedly. I’m not rich enough to live in their neighborhoods (just a blue collar joe) but it does impact everyone living here negatively.

Well, hopefully the word gets out and the assholes screwing it up for the majority who I suspect don't behave in this manner will stay away.

I can see how you have had enough as what you describe is beyond the pale.

I’m all for a system in which the penalty is percentaged off your worth. That way the penalty is equally applied
