South Tahoe rentals' serious NIMBY charge $1000 for three cars

You have got to be kidding me...

*Three* cars, instead of two, parked fully *on* property.. and you get slapped a $1000.

the property’s owner would be fined an additional $1,000. The family members’ explanation that it was just temporary and they planned to move the third car fell on deaf ears, P. said.

“It’s preposterous and unfair,” said P., a San Jose dentist.

Very "interesting"...

This is going to get very, very ugly!

Tourism is the #1 industry in Tahoe, so that is going to have a shit-ton of influence, however the hotels want less rentals while the resturants and ski areas want more.

On the other side, I'm sure it sucks for all of the neighbors to have different short-time people next door every weekend, often with them being assholes (some temporary for their visit) along with all of the noise late, noise early and trash left behind along with lots of vehicles parked all around.

Both sides are going to push hard.

If I was the renter, I'd be pissed at the owner if they hadn't warned me!

Good. I'm a resident. Previous quiet family neighborhoods up here are now hotel districts and the shit has gotten waaaaaaay out of control.

“On Friday afternoons, you see who pulls up. If it’s 10 guys unloading kegs of beer, you know it’s gonna be trouble. We’re fed up.”

If I lived there I wouldn't want to see a different group of guys with their beer kegs pulling up every weekend.

NIMY. Rich people not wanting to share. Just like most of SF/Bay Area.

$1000 fine is wholly unreasonable.

I'm sure they'll love it when all the tourism businesses go out of business and then only the rich that god loves can afford to live there.

Its Dethklok!
I lived in Tahoe for 5 years as a ski bum. This law will make things very tough because as a young adult you need roomates to pay the rent and bills and everyone has a car. That's a lot of fines.

Tahoe is nice...if you don't live there. Bunch of tourists and transient types is pretty much all there is. So glad i didn't buy in South lake, or even north lake for that matter. Bunch of snobby cunts on that side.

Can't imagine living there. I'm just off 80 at about 4k-ft and the weekend traffic is nuts. People pulling off at my exit to throw their piss bottles, diapers and mcdonalds garbage. And when you do get on the freeway with them, they seem to have no concept of changing the throttle position relative to incline. Nope, wherever their foot was at before the hill is where it stays up the hill and where it stays down the hill, just yoyo'ing 55-85. Lotta marin license plate frames.

I think that's exactly what they're aiming for.

Nah, I live in Cupertino walking distance to Apple Campus.

We have a few multitenancy (room for rent) homes on the block. 8 cars filling the street, people coming and going at all hours of the night, partying till 2 am, 1 has a mattress sitting in the driveway... been there for 6 months now.

I agree completely. But I know the Tahoe resident types. They want their personal playground and let all the dirty tourists stay at the hotels near the gondola. They don't want any residential type rentals.

Not at all - at least with the people I know. Most just don't like the assholes in the middle of the night pissing or puking over their decks into our own yards where our kids play. Not fond of used condoms and beer bottles on my grass most every Saturday and Sunday morning. Or people parking on my grass, breaking sprinkler heads weekly. I've come home from week long work assignments and have found my driveway completely filled with other people's cars even.

I’ve got no problem with people who come and rent quietly, politely and respect that they’re in a residential neighborhood.

Easy to criticize unless you live here and have to deal with it constantly. We’re hardly a bunch of smug elites – there are plenty of those here though, admittedly. I’m not rich enough to live in their neighborhoods (just a blue collar joe) but it does impact everyone living here negatively.

"Sorry you can't come over to dinner as that would be three cars." :wtf
I doubt that it's police officers cruising around looking for violations, it's probably all driven by neighbors reporting violations.

Just stay on good terms with your neighbor, otherwise things will get ugly!

from my understanding the rule ONLY applies to registered VHR homes
