Good save.

Can we see a copy of the ticket:p It sure would be nice to see these people have to pay for putting others at risk...

A elderly woman was driving in her car got a call from her husband on her cell phone. She answered complaining, "I told you not to call me when I'm driving. It's distracting." Her husband was frantic and yelled, “Honey, I just heard on the news that there is a car going the wrong way on the 780 and wanted to warn you! Be careful!”

She replied, “Honey, I'm there and it isn’t just one, there are dozens of them!”

Did you ever think, "Now I know how Maverick and Goose felt playing chicken with the MiGs?"

Observation to ALANRIDER7's video post: Wondering if the camera guy has ever seen a car vault a median barrier? By his actions, guess not. I'm curious, but not THAT curious.

I lived in that area a few years ago and remember reading about this same thing happening on probably that same stretch of road. IIRC, ca. 2010, 90ish-year-old got on 780 in Benicia going wrong way, killed herself and a bunch of passengers in another car.

Years ago I had to dodge a friggin' motorhome going the wrong way on I-5 up in Oregon. Can't imagine having to deal with that on a bike. So glad you had the experience to react as you did. I doubt many would have fared as well.

Holy Moly, that'll get ya going better than a gallon of coffee in the morning

yeah. problem is that thats what you can get addicted to..the adrenaline spike.
not realyy a problem..theres lots of professions where thats a requirement. most of us, just going to and fro, probably dont want to make a habit of it. sure is nice, tho...kind of a wake up from the politic/cubicle/digital/IT world a lot of us live in.
yeah...you mighta gotten killed, in real time..feels real good to be alive, yah? :ride

Same thing happened to me riding westbound on the Altamont. Looked up ahead and saw a gold Caddy coming down the hill, wrong way in #1 lane. I got over in time but took it out the two cars ahead of me head on. Driven by an elderly lady on meds.

Glad you made it through that :thumbup

My wrongway story: two lane highway in Tennessee, suicidal woman doing around 80mph in opposite direction swerved into me at the last second. I put my car into a ditch to avoid but she hit my rear quarter panel then went head-on into the truck behind me. They all went to the er in ambulances, bloody and all fucked up. The highway patrolman said that the glancing blow off of my car probably saved their lives.

Yeah, I can't even imagine what that would be like on a bike, seeing that car's grill

OK I got one ..140 up to Yosemite on an uphill, and somebody coming the other way tried passing an RV but even on the downhill didnt have the HP for a clean pass. dont what their story was, but if I didnt hit the dirt on the right shoulder, we would have head oned...they were not going to back off... probably not elderly, possibly drunk, more than likely with kids egging them on after a rowdy camping trip:laughing

So... what became of this homicidal mystery driver re-enacting Death Race 2000?

I flipped a u turn and went after her. She ended up stopping in the center divide and I stopped in front of her. She had her license taken away and sent back to the DMV for an emergency re-eval and got a ride home

Scary stuff.
Very glad you're still here to post about it and it didn't go the other way!

In college I had the same thing happen to me in my little Nissan PU truck. Unfortunately, there was no time to swerve enough and we met head on. I didn't have to clean my pants out but I did have to wipe my blood off the windshield and dashboard. Old folks.

Thanks for sharing the rest of the story. I've wondered what it would be like chasing someone the wrong way on a freeway. Did you have to pull up next to her to get her to pull over, or were the red and blue lights in the mirror enough?

Had the adrenaline subside enough that you were able to speak calmly to her?

Happened to me in Pacifica years ago, heading north on highway 1, took an exit to head over to the Manor safeway, and down the exit is coming some bluehair in a ford LTD right at me. Same thing happened a few years later in Bernal heights as I took the right lane to turn up putnam.

People are retarded.

I feel like the DMV should make you re-take your driving test once you hit a certain age...it's mind blowing to me that a completely sober person can go the wrong direction on the freeway.

Although there are so many terrible younger drivers on the road too, so maybe the driving test isn't hard enough :confused
