So BOX ipo'd the other day. It again clearly shows the mass of wealth to the young white male.
So this is a political rant and has nothing to do with motorcycling.
I am one of many that are now just starting to say that we need to change Silicon Valley, perhaps overthrow it. I am angry that these tech people make so much money while the rest of us eek by on $40,000 per year.
I am a carpenter. I LOVE working on cool houses. I am getting tired of working on rich techie second homes. 6,000 sq ft 2nd homes. Custom everything.
I'm tired of people saying, "I'll get a fucking Mexican to do it for less". Of which the Mexican workers will do what I will do at $45hr for $12 or $15 per hour. It's NOT the Mexican Workers but rather the HOME OWNERS that don't give a "shit". Home owners are the problem.
I've made big bucks working desk jobs. They take about 18 months to master. Carpentry is still a learning curve for me the last 10 years. PLUS I have done it prior, helping my dad the Contractor during summers while in high school and college. So my experience base is over 15 years.
If you flash a window wrong the cost of repair is $10,000 plus the mold problems that can effect the home dwellers. I'll install a window that should last until 2300 while a "Mexican at $12/hr" (NOT ALL MEXICAN WORKERS FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY, MANY ARE AWESOME CRAFTSMAN!) are lucky if it makes it until 2022. The Mexicans are and have been following the same building codes as we have, the International Building Codes: http://www.standardsportal.org/usa_en/sdo/icc.aspx#Overview I'm just surprised at how many Mexican workers from "reputable" Mexican firms have never heard of the International Building Codes. Actually not a single worker to date.
These Tech guys are lucky if they make it just five years. They suck, can't make it and need to be bought up or go away. They follow no codes. They get hacked, can't stop it, they do patches and updates every week like Adobe does, and they continue to be up held in high regard by "the home owner / home computer user." If I kept showing up after the job was done to do a "patch" I'd be in court and broke.
I will make a prediction about this, we see physical attacks on Tech Firms and Techie houses in the next year to 2 years. We also see lawsuits against Tech firms for discrimination.
I've made some bad predictions. Gas going to $7 gallon in 2009 and inflation at 20% by the end of 2008. Housing market crash of 15-25% by 2007 (wrong, it hit that and kept going to 60% down in 2010.) I've also made some correct predictions, (nearly correct) gas down to $3 gallon by June 2014, (improving economy starting 2012 WITH housing bottoming 2012 (buy all you can get 2012!), sport bike sales down till 2017, and likely bond market crash 2016. Also nearly correct, stocks peaking in 2014 (stocks are hard to predict).
New predictions! Disruptions in USA labor forces (strikes). Steady growth till end of 2016 should Terrorists keep fighting "over there" Europe stays steady, and China's Government keeps their economy growing "moderately". Risk is bond market disruption. Should no one want to buy 10 year treasuries at under a 1/2% return or negative return like several European bonds have gone, results in the Fed's not "making payroll".
New predictions for motorcycles: cars cam dash recorders catching us sport bikers making high speed passes, and double yellow passes, and blind corner passes, resulting in some sort of law enforcement intervention at the personal level, on a WIDE bases. I have made the prediction that I don't think street motorcycles will be legal in the future.
