Adverse Selection
I heard that too. A barfer got stopped and one of the cops said to the other cop that it is really hard to do 25 all the time through town. The barfer also stated he was pretty certain that the cop was the stunna from last year. :laughing

Apparently said cop stated that he has an R1.....

The popo sure jumped on the fireworks quick. :(
I think they might be a little jumpy in Hawthorne regarding explosions:

SATEEEDAAAYYY MOANIN' RIDE REEEPO'

Was Diego's the bomb or what? It was a chill place to start and to wind down the day ... servers were sweeties and everything was 100% delish! Aside from the BBQ night, I realized that all of my Hawthorne meals had been at Diego's ... no regrets whatsoevah! This morning we all had huevos rancheros...good thing cuz I was going to need all the huevos I could get for this day of big ADV. — at Diego's Mexican food in Hawthorne, Nevada.

Other dirt riders had already come back in from their early morning rides (some were ready for their second rides!) but most of our group was more casual about these things on this fine crisp Saturday morning. The winds overnight had cleared the air of smoke and the sky was sparkling clear up at Lucky Boy Pass, we'd just come down to a wide vista and stopped to reconnoiter and take in the ultrawidescreen view. G was mentoring Cootz and filling us all in on all sorts of trailside secrets, she know these parts well, and we all listened up.

Hi Joe! And Cootz, Troy, Melissa and G on her featherweight ATK ... I'll have to take her up on the offer to switch and vive la difference for myself.

In the view to the west you could see the layer of smoke collecting over the peaks of Eastern Sierra. As the day heated up, the winds carried it to our high desert valley but we enjoyed stunning clear views early in the day. So pics had to be taken.

Joe's ride posing just below Lucky Boy Pass. The road cuts through the saddle in the mountains in the middle of the picture, the taller left hand hump of the saddle is Corey Peak - elevation 10,502 feet. No wonder it is so treeless up here. {lonely sound of gentle breeze in the tumbleweeds}

This valley was huge, and our perch had a bit of that "edge of the world" feeling, Yosemite and the Eastern Sierra peaks bounded the western edge the horizon miles away on the other side. We're surrounded by volcanoes, hot springs, mines, windswept peaks, ghost towns, stone ruins, soaring raptors, wildflowers in their summer bloom, remote trails and less-traveled roads ... so much tugging you in every direction ... there's just not enough time to see it all.

Next time I head out there I'm definitely going to sample that narrower northern split of this road, you can see it in the lower right and it runs along the northern side of this canyon before it rejoins the main road NF-026 in the middle of the pic where it's all zig-zaggy "like the ox tinkles" -- that quaint German expression that describes its path quite well actually. The more you looked around out here in this high desert, the more trails you'd find ... yeah it felt adventurous and exhilarating to be out here.

Joe, Troy, and Gwynne pondering ... the road to the ghost town of Bodie (Bodie Road, would you believe) cuts through a canyon in them thar hills. At the crossroads the group stopped to do some planning. This road here was ncie and wide and smooth but as it climbs into those hills, it becomes a jeep trail with a few more technical and rocky spot that aren't quite as noob-friendly.

Love this shot of the guys contemplating ... something DEEPLY ... surely something important. And those bikes, they were just the thing to have out there, they are so at home on this gravel hiway, mine sure felt like the King of the gravel highway fa-shizzle. I did not miss the Hornet this day ... poor girl was at home on the curb missing out on the dusty fun.

Partway to Bodie there is a small water crossing which happens to be at the state line as you cross from NV to CA. The spring there results in a patch of vivid green vegetation sprouting out of the desert soil, and you're surrounded by fantastic rocky cliffs above. G and Cootz had headed off for Beefcake (Travertine) Hot Springs so it was just the five of us left now, Paul, Joe, Melissa, Troy. I thought we were still waiting for the other two and wandered off to snag some shots.

View of the road as it winds east towards NV. there are some rocky outcrops like this red rock one, and just over the yellow blooms in the middle of the road is a little pool from the spring. Our bikes did a little splish splash, we scampered over the sandy soggy spots, and no one took a real bath.

Near the spring sits the ruins of an old stone building. What a sweet view up to the rocky peaks/cliffs on the northern side of the canyon, just beyond this remarkably straight corner section of stone wall. They don't stack em like that any mo’, huh?

Looking down into the canyon from the hillside you can see another trail on the opposite side of the canyon -- more trail goodies to explore next time out! Trail treats indeed.

Someone over there's trying to tell me it's time to hit the trail again. I betta skedaddle!

And off we went, the road to Bodie couldn't be that much longer ... could it?

Later, alligator! :)
