I have found the use of a hose to be quite effective in the past, especially if you get lucky and corner or tree them. Use the highest pressure nozzle you got and just spray them as long as you can from as close as you're comfortable getting. They hate it.
One of my dogs is about 25lbs of raccoon hating death terrier and no raccoon is in my yard more than 30 seconds these days. She treed three of them a few weeks ago. It always scares the shit out of me and I go running out to help her but usually I'm too late and she has never had a scratch on her. She came from a wild dog pack in Taiwan and is actually basenji/fox terrier mix. Yay Shelby!
